the background command lets us place
colors and images in the backgrounds of
3d models to help them look a bit more
realistic the one drawback to the
command does not work in 2d wireframe
visual mode so I'm going to come over
here to the properties palette click on
visual style and I'm going to select
modeling
all right we're no longer in 2d
wireframe visual mode so we can now
enter into the background command at the
command line I'll type back and I just
need to type those 4 letters for
bricscad to know which command I want
press ENTER and there's the background
dialog box along the top see the three
different types of backgrounds we can
have a solid color a gradient color
which is where one color fades into
another and an image let's first look at
what the solid color looks like it's
just one setting here and that's
clicking this long rectangle we can
choose the color so let's pick a sky
color or a green color or about a dirt
color the find that Brown is it amongst
the reds and yellows we've got a brown
there click OK
preview area also shows the color click
OK one more time and there is the brown
color now I'm going to hold down the
shift key and hold down the mouse button
so I can orbit this around and you can
see that the color remains the same no
matter the angle of the building

the next style of background is great
heated so re-enter the background
command and from the type list choose
gradient and so you can see we have
either two color gradient or three color
gradient let's work with two color I'm
going to change it so that the top color
is a sky blue there we go let's go maybe
a bit fainter and bottom again a dirt
dark dirt color okay so there we can see
in the preview how the blue fades into
brown click OK and there we have that
background again similarly you can do a
three color gradient background the
other type of background is an image a
photograph can be something you've taken
with your camera or else created in
another software program I'll enter in
the background command again this time
choose image from the type and there are
the various settings now the only one
you really need to know right now is
this three-dot button which means browse
your to browse for the image so I'm
going to click along here and have a
picture I want to use which is of the
snowy background and there's a bunch of
options I'll leave those for the next
part of this tutorial
explain how they work click ok and after
a moment the image is there now you can
manipulate the model so that it fits a
bit better I'm going to scroll the
scroll button on my mouse just to make
the model a little bit smaller it's a
bit too small and then I'll hold down
the middle button to move the model say
over here and then if I want I can hold
down the shift key
adjust the viewing angle of the model so
it better fits the photograph I'd
mentioned there's a bunch of options
available for images and backgrounds and
so let's take a look at those now enter
the background command and the very
first option is how you want the image
displayed centered is the current one we
have stretch stretches the image to the
full extent of the viewport and you can
see that the aspect ratio changes it's
now taller than its wider and then
finding the third one is tile and that
repeats the image every so often for
images to look good it's important to
lock the aspect ratio that means it
doesn't want stretch in one direction so
that becomes too long or too tall from
what it should be another thing to
notice are these sliders along the edge
here and they can change the scale or
they can change the offset let's look at
what the difference is scale means image
becomes bigger if we go below zero it
becomes negative and the image then
becomes upside down the other one is
offset and that repositions the image to
a different place on the drawing and so
you can involve them to go either way
