I'm Deb shoemaker and I'm an art
therapist with integrated therapy
associates when we're not using our
creative outlets to express ourselves
that's when we start to manifest in ways
of literally physically feeling bad or
emotionally feeling not feeling so good
and keeping the creative process as a
part of somebody's life on a daily basis
that's my dream of it as a part of their
life it's just very important for our
self-expression
so one directive I use is to to draw a
heart and then to pick five colors the
child identifies a feeling word to the
color and I have a feelings chart if we
can't think of all the words or
sometimes I I go ahead and name for feet
basic feeling words and keeping it
simple like mad sad happy scared and
then when they kind of they'll get the
gist of that that then I have them fill
and maybe the fourth or the fifth
feeling and then they color in the heart
how much they feel love you to one of
those feelings that goes in their
portfolio and we can pull that out
whenever we need to to look at the
feeling words each session even so
teaching the emotional literacy it's
really important cavemen where the you
know original using art therapy and they
were using art on the caves to
communicate but there's also evidence
that sometimes it was just an expression
or to deal with death and so it's it's
some primal need
