okay so we're on theme so the theme and
that's in that quick fisherman story
then it could be several things but
basically because the story ends you
know because there's there's two things
there's two things are happening here
one is he's really desiring this money
to fix his boat he's running away from
pain suffering from his his wife that
died and he is trying to escape all that
by just working on his boat putting all
of his time and effort into his boat
into fishing and into his job and that
consumes his life where he doesn't think
about his his wife that died in the pain
he feels so he's trying to outrun his
pain so the moral of the story could one
of the moles of the sort could be that
you know that you don't out you can't
outrun your pain and it's not good
outrun your pain to let it go to to let
it go and find new love but the
obviously the statues reveal kind of
what the what the theme of the story is
that love is the answer and that's kind
of like the theme that love is the
answer and maybe to everything but love
is definitely answer to your problems to
being hurt by love and it's Stephanie
and definitely another part of that
theme that love is the answer is that
money is not the answer so you see that
he's thinking money's the answer just
gotta get money got to fix my boat you
know you know living my life working all
this is the answer but no love is the
answer that's not the answer so that if
the story had ended differently if he
had chosen money over love and took his
money and went back home and just said
to hell with love and you know fix his
boat up
then the theme would have been that you
know money is more important than you
know just out you know don't don't worry
about love don't get hurt you know dis
avoid getting hurt and you know because
if you love her you'll just get hurt
again probably so it's better just to
avoid getting hurt again and wallow in
your pain and run from your pain and you
know continue working all the time okay
so I spend more time on desire goal
conflict theme will building
foreshadowing because these are very
important to your story these are also
very important but I just been a little
more time with those
we'll spend less time in these so you
have your main character and you have to
decide who your main character is and
the three things want to think about
when developing a main character that
will definitely this is like with back
history that will definitely affect back
history and present present time this
will affect how you make character acts
what kind of person he is
so the first thing is the psychological
aspects that is is the person shy is he
confident physiological how they look is
he buff is he puny is he scarred you
know maybe from his past whipping or
something and how does he feel about
that so how does the visit how does this
physiological appearance if that is his
physical appearance affect his his
psyche a lot is psychology or not
psychology his psychological mind is his
mine in general the psychological
aspects so if it's a female character
and she's like shy and she doesn't like
her body so you can see that maybe she's
just slightly overweight or maybe she's
not a weight maybe she's really skinny
kind of like twig and she hasn't fully
developed into her body yet and she's
kind of shy about that so that affects
her psyche all her psychological aspects
um she's kind of shy you know maybe she
dresses in sort of baggy clothes you
know doesn't want to be seen and said
you know those work together often in it
the guys like buff and strong you know
he's confident you know but you can also
throw a loop there make him buff and
strong but make him self-conscious about
his body self-conscious about it about
his body that he doesn't like it and
that he doesn't think he's good-looking
and stuff so that can be that can
actually work out well and you know
using opposites like that for a
character then you have the sociological
so his background where he lives and
stuff where he grew up where he lives
now and where he did live you know does
he live in a big city around a lot of
people or small city did he grow up in a
small town in others in big town or both
he grew up he grew up in a small town
still lives in a small town you know is
the big is the big city foreign to him
did he grow up with gang members that he
grew up in gang you know violent places
or is that totally foreign to him did he
grow up in slave trade you know as a
slave you know and so forth so you have
to think
it's like you know where he lived in all
this stuff and was he raised to be
racist was he weighed raised by hippies
to love everyone all of that's gonna
affect who your main character is so you
want at least know the basics about
these three aspects of your main
character or all your main characters
actually and then that's why I have
these I should have put this little
branches to each one of those two but I
didn't but the branches here mean that
these things apply to all your main
characters and your main opponents and
you know the more you tell you know
about them the better you can flush them
out and show them to be rounded
characters three-dimensional characters
you're gonna hear that a lot probably
and probably already have heard that a
lot or read about it a lot that is 2d 2d
characters cardboard characters you know
that means they're flat data they're not
well rounded if you if you pay attention
to these three aspects and make sure
that shows throughout your story and
these aspects then your character will
be more rounded so what what these mean
Dennis allies which is people that help
your main character there are the main
characters friends or just people that
help them you know in fantasy and I can
just be that weird character that you
know gives them a hint where to go like
in the movie labyrinth and a lie was
actually a little snail in the beginning
that helped her find the you know the
the wall that she can find her way out
of that hallway then he have your fake
opponent you don't have to have this
isn't necessary but you could add depth
to a story by having a fake opponent
that is someone that we think is an
opponent or that the main character
thinks as an opponent and maybe we knows
not depending if it's written from more
than one point of view then we can know
something the main character doesn't but
anyway they're really his ally then you
can have a fake ally this is where to us
it to either us with the main character
they seem to be an ally to main
character but in true and true Ness they
are an opponent and then of course you
have your opponents sometimes your
opponent is one sometimes it's more than
one but you usually have one main
opponent and sometimes the opponent
could actually be Nature herself because
there are a couple different ways you
can tell a story that it's man against
man man against self man against nature
man against you know sociology and so
forth so you know there's a couple ways
you can have a story who the opponents
can be but the opponent whether be star
person whatever should reflect the main
character they should both have similar
goals that is they should both want this
goal or either that where the main
character should want something that
gets in the way of them of the main
character wanting his goal but the best
opponents you know to have black and
white you know Luke Luke Skywalker Darth
Vader that the best is actually to have
kind of gray of both the main character
he's the good guy because he has morals
you identify with and sympathize with
sometimes your main characters not a
good guy maybe he's a serial killer like
in Dexter but that you know that they're
harder to write but the point is that
you're your two characters have similar
a lot of similarities and they should be
equally intelligent equally strong and
stuff like this although the main
character might start out really weak
but by the end when they face off you
know whether it's a mental battle or a
physical battle they should be equal
poets but the the the the main the
opponent the main opponent should always
be a step ahead of the main character
until the end and then it's reversed or
at the end he loses okay so you need to
think of weaknesses for a character and
you want to think of psychological
weaknesses and physical weaknesses so
your main character could be like Harry
Potter he can be physically weak they
can also be mentally weak that is meant
it's not some sort of mental handicap
maybe they're OCD or something or
they're just slow thinking you know
there's not all that intelligent
whatever that that's a weakness but also
psychological weaknesses which is like
you know they they're self-loathing
they're shy they're angry they're prone
to anger they're that is they're easily
angered and they have an attitude
problem and they blow off at people and
you know yell at them because of them
whatever so you want it you want it you
want your character to have both a
physical weakness that's why I put two
weaknesses here at least one physical
weakness and at least one psychological
weakness then needs now needs are like
the main character might not know they
need this you know the main character
has desires they have wants and they
have one main desire that reads that
reaches the goal that is revealed about
the 25% mark or even if the 10% mark
just depends if this changes by time you
get to hear
but the important thing is is that they
have a desires or wants but they also
have needs these are things that they
need in order to change you want a
dynamic character or a character that
changes now your main character doesn't
have to change but it is very satisfying
when your main character changes through
the course of the story and what's gonna
changing like in that fisherman story he
needs love he doesn't realize that he
doesn't want that even he thinks he
doesn't want love you know he's trying
to run from it I don't want love but
that's what he needs he needs that to
change he needs that to be happy and so
you know that's one of his needs is love
what I need could also be courage maybe
someone doesn't want courage but they
definitely need it whether they might
want it and need it they can be one of
the one in the same sometimes you
character might need justice that could
be something he wants as well but let's
say he doesn't want justice but he needs
it he just doesn't realize that you know
he needs peace he needs to let go he
needs some you know comfort and letting
