YouTube Custom Thumbnails (size and cropping tips) - GIMP Tutorial Video Lecture | A GIMP 2.8 Tutorial for Beginners - Design Softwares

hi this video will be about YouTube
custom thumbnails and if you are new to
my channel I'm using gimp 2.8 which is a
free open source for editing software
you can download it from gimp.org and
for my subscribers I hope you learn some
useful tricks about the crop tool now
first the most important you need to use
the correct aspect ratio otherwise the
thumbnail may get stretched so remember
these numbers or write them down this is
the width and height in pixels you don't
need to use exactly the same numbers but
you need to keep the aspect ratio I'm
going to show you that in a second and
let's click here on this image I'll
select the crop tool and I'll click here
and drag don't worry if you click
outside the canvas you will not be able
to select anything outside of it you
select only the image but it's a good
idea to start from the top left corner
because when you're using the size
option here from the two options you're
going to grow the selection from left to
right and also from top to bottom if I
move this over here and I'll show you
this you see how it's growing from left
to right and from top to bottom
so if you make a selection over here for
example and type 1200 pixels you see
that you won't be able to apply this
number it will how to change it so
always start from here and here in the
size I'm going to type in these numbers
1280 by 720 click enter and now we can
click on the fixed option to keep the
aspect ratio and we can click here and
drag like this to make the selection
bigger and select as much as we can of
the image next you'll probably want to
position the selection and the way to do
this is to click and hold down the left
mouse
be careful not to click fast because
this is going to crop the image clicking
hold down the button to move the
selection and then you can use the enter
key to crop the image if you don't like
the result and you want to make an art
selection hit ctrl Z to undo but before
you start making a selection remove the
fixed option and then start again type
in the numbers select the fixed option
and then maybe you want to crop just a
portion of the image position this and
then click the enter key if you like the
result you can go to the file menu and
select the export option in this case
I'm using a photo but you may want to
compose your thumbnail from scratch in
that case you go to the file menu select
the new option and make sure you type
these numbers here now we already have
them because this is the size of our
current image but you may have some
other numbers here just type in the
width and height and if you want a
bigger image and therefore higher
quality you can multiply these numbers
so if I want to multiply them by 2 like
a new star 2 then click here again star
2 and then click OK and now here I can
start adding maybe photographs text and
maybe create some other graphics of
course make sure that the content of the
term male is related to the content of
the video otherwise people won't be very
happy with you if you were misleading
