Space civ part 1 Video Lecture | Construct Tutorial: Become a Game Maker - Game Development

hey buddy is John plan tech and Tate
we're going to be working on a right now
and art TS little tutorial later on I'm
actually going to be moving this toward
a civilization based game where you
build a space Empire you have a planet
and then you start doing mining
operations you start building some ships
exploring other planets and possibly
take on enemies and have enemies invade
your territory so now it's got not going
to be the most advanced system would
like it to be pretty in depth in a
pretty complete tutorial today we're
going to be dealing with just moving a
ship about and the viewing your
territory and later on we're going to be
actually dealing with how I make the
sprites and then moving to a shipbuilder
platform that builds your ships and
getting resources or or two then mind it
so we're going to need a mining station
so let's get straight to this so i
actually have two layouts when layout is
basically just the is this going to be
the collection of planets so we're just
going to make it like this and later on
i'll add a menu and everything but right
now this is basically exists going to be
a small little list of planets that you
are going to explore right now we just
have this one and a little text box
where we're going to actually name it so
we're going to run the layout and then
we can name it new Mars and then click
and then we're actually going to be
using this little almost invisible box
uses a car function for us to actually
look around the map and then what
happens
that we can click on this spaceship and
drag this these arrows around and it's
basically hey I want you to go to this
location
and then this is our planet
okay so let's get to the code so we're
going to first go to map one or the
first layout right here it's on left
click of the little Mars planet we're
going to go to the planet system also it
works with touch I'm going to get this
set to where we can use it on a Windows
executable or a PC executable so this
would be able to work on a mac or a pc
or in any case you can also do this on a
linux based system so you bunt to also
i'm going to get to work on Android I
don't have an iOS license trying to get
one of those but they're kind of
expensive running uh it's like a hundred
bucks a year and since I don't know when
they exported or play around with it too
often it's not really a big thing so but
they for the most part unless the
exportation process is almost the same
just minor differences but everything
that we do in here straight up to the
exportation is going to be pretty much
the same so running Android and then
running HTML so basically new grounds or
which is a game site or some other game
site so if touched or on click we're
going to go to the new layout ok I'm
going to X off those and then here's the
code for the our actual first planetary
system so we have a global number and
this is basically how we're going to
highlight the ships so when you click
when you play a regular RTS like star
wars in part war you click on a ship you
have a little green icon up here with
the ship is either highlighted somehow
usually it's a green circle or some like
that or goes around the ship that's what
this is for whenever you click on that
chip it's going to say hey we're going
to reference this ship and
some way in this case we're going to say
if you click on this ship we're going to
add one to ship highlight saying okay
this is the first ship we're going to
highlight it we're going to set the
opacity to 100 because originally the
the opacity of the Select icon is
actually going to be set to 20 so we can
still see it but it's basically
invisible it's an on and off switch and
then we're going to set the position of
the arrow icons to where the ship is so
you click on the ship and then that
beacon basically goes to where the ship
is and then you drag that beacon to
where you want this ship to be we're
going to make sure that the mothership
is on the top layer and then this is a
pathfinding option so basically the what
I some issues that I had without the
pathfinding option was that the ship
would rotate kind of wildly and actually
we can probably demonstrate that right
now if I click on it and then drag the
ship around and the side oh no I want to
check out different places you can
already see he it rotates and it doesn't
actually as how it does it it rotates
plenty wise but if I put the code back
in click on it and say hey I want you
over here oh no we got another enemy
I'll meet you over here it finds a new
path within you know a couple of seconds
boom okay so move the top layer and then
find a path to the sprite so sprite 3x
and sprite 3 why is this sprite right
here it's this arrow rotating sprite
every tick and then also underneath that
is ship highlight one so as long as chip
highlight one is our ship highlight is
one and every tick it's basically every
micro second basically accelerate the
ship is going to accelerate to the arrow
icon and then the ship is going to set
its angle to the icon also and then it's
going to move along a path so it's going
to find a path once we click on the ship
to where the arrow icon is and then it's
going to move to that path once the
arrow icon has been moved away from it
I'm just going to try to find it again
also if the ship is overlapping the
arrow icon it's going to stop moving
also see
its path logic is going to stop saying
hey we don't need to find we don't need
to continue finding the path because
we're on it but as soon as we're away
from it if we could be you know you know
a couple of like dots off or whatever we
could be some you know it could just be
moved just a little bit we're going to
find it again so we were right on top of
it alright so the behavior set my ship
needed our custom movement and
pathfinding the arrow icon had a drag
and drop and then this is just a scroll
to and it we need yeah is a a direction
so we can move around and then this
planet has no behaviors at all again you
could find the file down below for you
guys to check it out and the next one
we're actually going to be changing our
modifying it just a little bit to
wherever we click as long as the ship is
equal to one and we click somewhere
within space it's going to find it so
instead of dragging it all we have to do
is click it somewhere though I'm still
going to and then we'll just disable the
drag-and-drop option I just wanted the
drag-and-drop option for those people
who wanted to have it in it you don't
see it that often but this is an easy
way to have an RTS type stuff set up and
then what we're going to have to do is
when you click on the mothership and you
is going to appear that will allow you
to basically check on the ship so maybe
we'll adding crew numbers or something
like that you know shielding hall
integrity maybe some weapons or some
fighters and then we're going to be able
to add and create something so the
mothership will basically store all the
blueprints and the first one is going to
be a shipbuilding
processing plant or shipbuilding station
in which you're going to build it the
mothership is also going to have one
mining a resource collector so we're
going to actually create like an
asteroid and it's going to go back and
forth so the mothership is going to
store all the resources so you would
click on the mother ship it says to and
we're going to have a button it says you
know deploy minecraft and you're going
to click on it the little mining ship
appears adjacent to the mothership and
you're going to click on the mining
craft or automatically it should just
start mining as soon as you say deploy
minecraft or the plug deployed the
mining craft it's going to just
automatically look for the asteroids and
mine it and then come back and whatever
it comes back it's going to put the
resources into the ship and which you
have so many resources you can then
start building some ships and then from
that I Iran will move into exploration
and the other AI players so hopefully
you're going to be enjoying this series
I would actually like to clone this
series and make as you know construct to
can do a limited 3d so it actually
import 3d models and I like the clone
this using actual 3d models and then
using a couple other engines make a
similar RTS type game but that's it for
