How to create your own custom brushes in Pixlr Video Lecture | Pixlr Tutorial: Master Image Editing - Professional Skills

welcome to another Pixlr tutorial in
this tutorial I'm going to look at how
to create your own custom brush so
create a new image is the default one
and have a look at the brush tool and
there are a number of parameters up here
you can select your brush to have a hard
tip
or a soft tips ever took that one off
it's a bit softer
diffuse scatter so there's a number of
options up here as well as the opacity
so I can have that much fainter and have
that as a background changing the colors
and the size
we move all that
and if you look at the brush palette
these are your default set of brushes
and you've got various sizes of hard
buffett soft brushes square brushes and
some symbols and shapes you can change
the spacing and the diameter and the
hardness so if i wanted a brush in
between the 15 in the 20 i can pick the
15 and then change its forever that to
make it size 18 see up here it's an 18
brush to be eager size 18 brush
we're going to be much difference
between it was a pretty close
so I was 25 brush
now there are more brushes that you can
load into your palettes we select a lot
the more button there are a number of
categories so there's some artistic
brushes some nature
and I might look at some grasslands and
that will load a different set of
brushes
and then you add those to your palate so
now I've got some more brushes that I
can do so if i wanted this one and again
you can change the diameter in the
spacing because that's pretty big but i
can make that a bit smaller change the
color
and the opacity etc so there are quite a
lot of brushes up in these categories so
there's smudges and splatters and shapes
so different types of shape to get the
stalks for example add them you can keep
adding more and more brushes to your
palette so again feel a big you can
change the sizing
if I wanted to remove these I can remove
individual brushes up I was never going
to use 398 I could click on it and
remove it I can clear them all that so
every time you add new brushes to your
palate they're only there as long as
that session pixlr is open so if i open
up a new pic session the default
set of brushes will reappear so i can
clear them all out and there's nothing
there and then I can't load or reset and
inspect the defaults showing set
but what if you wanted to create your
own you can draw a shape let's just
and all this I can draw a shape so a
size 20 soft brush with a hard tip what
if i wanted to draw some arrows and have
those as brushes so i can draw some
shapes
if you don't like the shape wrap it up
and do it again
then with the lasso tool I'm going to
outline that brush or that shape in the
Edit menu I'm going to define it as a
brush let's just deselect that selection
so if I now go back to the brush tool
and into the brush then I have my own
shape i can select that
and it's black but I can now change the
color what's green actually so if I
wanted to have that the red arrow
now I've got a red one okay you can't
change the I can't rotate it or anything
that's what if you wanted to do a set of
arrows you'd have to do all sorts of
different arrows like a now go define
another one so if I want this one now
and edit define brush is also a shortcut
control k they find that one as a brush
go back to the brush tool and I've got
to
but deselect left another one changing
the color simple
change the opacity so you can do all of
that to Russia sets an hour lighter blue
like it a diffuse you can change the pen
types it's a bit of a diffuse there make
it smaller so if I go back to a
different color sets
pink
and select that brush again
let them change this time at its upper
will make it bigger and make it really
big arrow
that'll go for the whole page
smell back to that any shape you can
draw can be defined as a brush any image
you find can be defined as a brush so if
I wanted to create a set of arrows well
didn't remove all the rest I'll remove
all of the default ones just keep
clicking remove brush
and keep on defining my arrows so define
another define another one
so dizzy control k now you find the
brush have now got three I can save that
set of brushes so save the set and I'll
call them
arrow brushes and it gives it an
extension of PBR save it into the
desktop and now
the reset and bring back the defaults
then I can load my set of custom brushes
they are the arrow brushes and that will
add them to the ends of the default
brushes because you don't to be defining
them and then not saving them as a set
of brushes because every time you start
a new Pixlr session you'll have to draw
them again so create a set of them I've
also created a set lotus set
numbers brushes and these are the
numbers brushes here and I'll show you
how I did that shortly and I can now
pick a fancy number 5 turn off the
decent selection and it's in pink at the
moment i'll change it to red turns its
opacity back to a hundred sort of
diffuse and I've got a number wanted to
have that as a paintbrush now where did
I get that because I certainly didn't
draw it any image you can find so back
to this any image that you can find can
also be defined as a brush that was a
picture that I found in google images so
there are a lot of photoshop brushes
that you can download for free and add
to your photoshop and same for the other
free image editing program pimp there
are brushes that you can download it for
free or you can buy them and add them
into program but there's as far as i can
tell there's none for pics lot or you
can go onto the internet so here for
example I've put in a search for
photoshop brushes and our splatters and
it gives me some images then look at the
images mother that your websites and
found some paint splatter scary pictures
and found this one I particularly like
glossy blood splatters and I've saved
that in each because I can now get that
shape and define it and create a brush
out of it so just going on and doing
without spy let's do photoshop brushes
in google and look at the images and
there's all sorts of brush strokes there
that if they're clear enough who enough
for you to get a less o'toole around
them and define them because you can
make the bigger we deal with in lamb
pics the only way by using it at
transform to make the picture bigger so
there's that one for example gives you a
few
you shapes their maybe you want to
define as a brush so that's that's how I
what I did to to find the numbers here
and then save that as an image so I've
got a fairly good picture there and I
want to define each of those numbers as
a brush so all I've done is get the
lasso tool and select each one
separately
edit define brush or control k brush
defined and then go back to the brush
tool and it's given me another one there
at nine and then I save them as a set so
any image can be defined as a brush you
can draw your own symbol letters and
define them as a brush and then save
them as a set load them as a set remove
that particular brush if I didn't want
number one I can remove it and remember
all this command C you can reset reset
and all you get is your default set of
brushes you can go into more and add the
different brushes here so there's all
sorts of different brushes here there's
all these hearts for example if you
liked heart shapes different symbols is
that you can add and use those so there
are lots of different things that are
already there but creating your own is
very very simple so that's all for this
