Pixelmator Tutorial | Eyedropper Tool Video Lecture | Pixelmator Tutorial: Beginner to Advanced - Professional Skills

hey welcome to this pixel math tutorial
in this tutorial I'm gonna show you how
to correctly use the eyedropper tool
it's a great tool wholly underused and
it's it's excellent if you want to
recreate a color and use it as a
background use it on some text phil' for
text whatever it is but you will be able
to do that with in Pixelmator if you
really want me to at the later date I
can go ahead and recreate this this sort
of whole scenery thing here but I've
just used this and I'm doing this sort
of off the cuff if you like cuz I'll
just watch this trailer and I like this
background career I thought was
fantastic so awful I'm going to show
anybody able to recreate that background
color we can do that with the eyedropper
tool with in Pixelmator so I'm in pixel
Matt and now I've just made a new
document the properties are 1920 by 1080
so it's nice and big and it would be
sort of a good HD size desktop
background size whatever you want to use
it for so but I am gonna come on - so I
can see my my my canvas a little bit
better I've just dragged and dropped
this is this screen grab into Pixelmator
so I can you see how close I actually
get and we're gonna need it to select
our colors as well so there's a few
tools that we're gonna need which is our
first layout tools which is come on one
our keyboard hides and shows our tools
command 5 which is our gradients we need
our gradients and also shift command and
see for our colors so we'll also need
our colors no I know to recreate this
background might think quite simple we
create this background I'm gonna make it
and I want to save this background so
I'm gonna keep the keep the gradient
just select one of your colors one of
your gradient colors all it's done is
filled
fill that image with with the color for
me so I'm gonna set my background layer
first and then I'm gonna select one of
my background colors no I'm gonna select
one with a few colors so I can show you
how to remove color stops if you don't
already know to do that and for this
we're clearly gonna need let's say three
color stops just to give ourselves for
that nice gradient that fades out into
the dark color so three color stops so
let's get rid of everything other than
three select a gradient from your
gradients tab and then just drag the
colors stops off leaving only three
don't worry about these separators for
now we don't need to concern ourselves
too much with those so let's get our
colors so we need our color swatch right
here and then I'm gonna use this Web
color this hashtag here that's that's
our web colors now we're gonna get a web
code it always displays a web code and
web color code for you and the way to
worm to get the ones from this so it can
replicate them we're gonna need it for
our first color swatch we're gonna go to
this eyedropper tool right here and then
I'm gonna get this little aperture this
little this little preview window and
put it somewhere in the middle of our
Marvel preview and I'm gonna left click
and this will give me a code it will
generate a code right here in the in the
colors in this code on the press command
+ X on my keyboard to cut that code and
then gonna go to my gradients I'm gonna
left click my first gradient color stop
I'm gonna highlight the color code that
it's giving me there and press command V
to paste in my own color code so now I
can't just go and select my eyedropper
tool like so like you think you would be
able to and left click here and it will
give me a different color I think this
is a bit something wrong with this part
so maybe pick some out a team I will
tweet you in this have a look at this so
then I remember these report this book
you can't go and then select what I have
to do is select another tool doesn't
matter
what tool select another tool and then
go and select my eyedropper tool again
to make it active so I wanna go
somewhere sort of fading out towards the
edge of the gradient and left-click if
it gives you the same cold move out a
little bit further so now I've got a
different code so I'm gonna want to pull
out this code just come on an X on my
keyboard select the color stock that you
want to paste it to the web color code
will already be highlighted right here
command V to paste my own color code no
it might be a case that we only need two
color stops for this but at the moment
I'm just gonna try with three so I'm
gonna use this remember go back to my
another tool within my tools then go to
my eyedropper eyedropper tool and then
select the very far corner like so
within my window and left-click and it
will generate a code for me cut this web
code hollow the color stop come on V
over the web code and then that gives us
this this gradient that we've got right
now
now if I look at my separators right
here my gradient separators I'll see
that my first color was in the middle my
second color was somewhere down here so
I'm gonna need to drag this slider down
a little bit more just so the color
comes a bit further out down here look
so then what I'm gonna do only get my
gradients tab I like my background layer
my gradients tab known you're gonna turn
this Marvell off for a second
change my gradient type from linear to
radial because she saw that it was a
radial and gradient type select
somewhere in the center it's like
somewhere in the center and then drag my
gradient out like so
if I turn this marvel back on you will
see that I have without messing about or
or making any changes I've pretty much
replicated that background layer as I
said I can make the rest of this the
rest of this scene if need be if anybody
wants to know how to do it you know with
this lens flare and all that all the
blur around here we can do that quite
easily but for now that's the eyedropper
tool and it can be applied anyway and
it's a really fantastic tool that I
think is highly underused you've got
that little idiosyncrasy that you can't
select you know that the web-based tools
with it selected in another tool first
but hopefully the Pixum IT team will
sort that out and and yeah that's that's
