C# Xna Made Easy Tutorial 37 - Loading Maps [Advanced] Video Lecture | C# Game Development: Game Making made Easy (English)

okay hello everybody and welcome to the
advanced way on how to load maps within
your program okay so in this tutorial or
you're just going to be expanding on the
last tutorial or so let us get started
now first of all one thing that you
should notice that before that what we
did is that we did trimline we did trim
and then we trim the white spaces within
the end of our file and that was that
was fine but then what if you
accidentally do a double space with your
map file and you don't notice it well
there's a way to handle it to get rid of
double space and in case you do
something like this hopefully your map
doesn't look like like this for example
but and like as obvious as this but if
you happen to have a double space here
and there I will show you where to fix
it so what we want to do is we want to
do while line index of and put a double
space there and we save not equals to
negative one what index of does it gives
us the index of whatever this space is
so basically if it can't find the index
of it then therefore return the value
negative one if it does then it will
turn the the index of where this
character is so if it can find the index
and what we want to do is just do lined
our place and we replace a double space
with a single space and what the replace
does it will it will replace all
instances of the double space but say
you have like a triple also you have a
quad space or quadruple space whatever
whatever once it detects it it will
remove two spaces of it but then it
would only do that again what our while
loop do it does that it will keep on
looping until there's no more double
spaces anymore right so that's what we
do and then we remove our the double
spaces from or within it and then we
replace on with single spaces so
everything is good right and if you want
just to be on the safe side you can also
do trim start as well so in case they
left spaces at the front as well you can
trim this bitch stud as well
so yeah soon and if we run this program
every day the map and everything she
remain the same now as you can tell this
is not the end of this tutorial there is
more to this tutorial I'm just gonna I'm
just trying to run this oh I think I
just build it I didn't actually run it
all the problem was that ice I have to
put line is equal to line dot replace
sorry make sure you put line is equal to
or else on your program will run will be
set in an infinite loop so therefore
yeah I'm Atlas drawn okay so now
everything everything is almost set so
we got it that we can we can draw
everything etc etc and we can do
dynamically so we don't need to specify
with a height etc etc but wouldn't it be
great to actually get all the map
properties from the map file from the
map file you you tend to want to get a
lot of things you might want to get like
the textures the alpha value of certain
tiles etc etc you're going to want to
load that within the amount file we're
not going to be going through all that
in depth and loading that doing alpha
values of certain towels that's up to
you to to increase your knowledge on
this and learn or explore new topics but
what we're going to be doing is we're
going to be loading the topic that sorry
the textures that we're going to be
using within our map file okay and the
reason why we're doing this is that
because different maps use different
textures right and you're not going to
want to use different textures from
you're not going to want it you're not
going to want to just specify all the
textures you're using for each map and
with a new trial function you want to
store them within the map file now one
thing to notice that one or two maps or
few maps a lot of maps several maps
might have a couple of images that I
that are the same and instead of loading
the math I'm going to be showing you is
going to be loading each
image from the map but that isn't a
great night isn't the greatest way to do
it because if you have multiple maps
within your program like if you have
multiple messenger program and you're
loading the same texture two or three
times that's running that's using
unnecessary space so what you'd want to
do is I'll say have an image manager or
something like that and then what you'd
want to do is that you want to get the
textures name reference like you want to
store in a dictionary or anything and
then you want to put the textures name
reference or whatever to get the texture
that you want to draw and store them
into a texture or something rather than
reloading it but that is for i'll be
showing you guys how to do that in the
advanced platformer series so if that
seems kind of confusing then don't worry
about it well but so we're going to do
is that we're going to do texture when
do I texture them I'm going to map so
this is going to represent when we're
loading a map and this is going to
represent we're loading a texture so our
texture file is going to be our or
sprite so I'm going to put sprite one
okay so that's the texture reloading and
this is the map reloading so therefore
what we need to do is that ok what I'm
going to do is I'm going to put spray 1
and spray 1 ok so one when we load this
into our texture list its texture 0 is
going to represent the first image and
texture one's going to have it in the
second image so what we're going to do
is we're going to draw relative to the
the maps the maps numbers so if not be
is equal to 0 then we draw texture
number 0 and have maps numbers number 1
then we draw texture number one and if
you're using the map textures the char
or something or whatever and you're
doing it is like ABC or whatever then
you can do have different ways to handle
it but this is an easy one how to handle
it
so what we want to do is go to the top
where file and we want to make it enum
Carlos state and we'll say texture and
we'll have map okay and we're doing this
way because sometimes you hide the map
before the texture or whatever depends
on how you have it loaded so we have a
text right there and we'll create a
variable low state and one name in state
and its equal to null I don't know if
you can equal to null okay so we won't
equal to anything okay so we have our
stay right there so what we want to do
is that we don't want to do any of these
this loading unless I it equals um it
equals the state right so basically what
we're going to do is we're going to be
saying that if okay first of all we
don't want to do anything with a line
over yet so we're going to say if line
doc contains and we'll put we can put
the word texture or we can put the whole
thing there's over contains texture then
we set the state equal to load state dot
texture else if line contains map then
the state is you go to load stay down
mat so we reset the load state so now
we're going to say first of all in our
load content now we're going to want to
add in a Content Manager cuz we're going
to be loading in images ok so our
content ok so we say that we're going to
use a switch statement so we're going to
put switch and we're going to put state
and we're going to have case load state
texture break and we're going to have k
slowed state map okay so when in our
textual me load the texture what you
basically want to do is get our line and
load down line so what we're going to do
and we're going to store within a
texture list so what we want to do is we
want to create a new list of textures
texture 2d 2d and i'll put in textures
and sort in there so now when we load
our textures we're going to say that
textures dot add our content doc
download our loading and textures right
so texture 2d and loading in the line
okay so that's how we're going to do it
just going to be adding the textures in
there and when we load our map all we're
going to do is just copy the same
algorithm you used to load the map and
paste it in there and we're going to
want to indent it okay so once we do
that we load in our texture and we load
in our map and everything is fine so
instead of having this map texture all
right here what we're going to do is
that when we do it when we draw our map
we're going to do is we're going to draw
the textures and the texture number is
going to be equal to our map i J so
whatever number is in our map index or
whatever that's the detection we're
going to draw so if that map index the
number is equal to zero we're going to
draw the first texture and if the number
is equal to one then we're going to draw
that texture so we don't have to have
this right here oh but what I'm going to
do is that since I'm loading the same
sprite I need a just indent this
properly but since we're loading the
central in the same sprite we want to
make them different colors so what I'm
going to do is that I'm going to say
that um if I is equal to
one is equal to zero then draw color
equals two colored out white else straw
color equals colored up black so zeros
are going to represent the normal red
color and ones are going to represent
the red the black color so just let me
make a variable called draw color and
right there so just change this to draw
color and then the for the map textured
our way to where to draw it I'll have to
do is just take this right here copy
this and paste it right there and pace
right there so then we get our width and
the height of the texture and then we we
draw everything to the screen so now
what we need to do since we change them
on the parameters we don't need our map
texture right there anymore and for a
load content our glow continent takes
two parameters now so you have to put in
the content right there and everything
should be fine and since we're not using
this map texture we can get rid of this
and then if we run our program we can
see what we get
hold on there's a problem let me check
to see what it is okay okay I see the
problem now our first of all when we get
the line and we get a line texture
whatever is saying that we're trying to
download what we're trying to load this
line texture so what we really want to
do is in our map yes we want to say that
if it contains any of those values then
we want to continue which means that we
skip the rest of the content and go back
to the top of our loop or whatever so
we're going to set that to continue so
then I won't try to load arm it won't
try to load this value and I won't try
to load that so we just do continue and
if we run this no stop debugging and try
to debug it again so textures don't add
also the thing another problem right
here is that it's trying to load in on
this empty file right here so what we
want to do is that we want to save line
not equals string dot mt so if the
string is not empty that means we should
load it and last time third time's a
charm and notice we get our map so that
