babe what's up everybody and welcome to
your next t-shirt modern game RPG
tutorial and Satori we're gonna be
getting in some tile collision and the
reason why we have to do this is because
we're gonna be including it in a two
hour town map editor sorry this video
was not released yesterday I did record
a full 20 minutes of video and then out
of the blue when I went to edit it the
video was just flickering and I did not
feel like making another 20 minute video
so sorry for that so now I'm making this
a day hope you guys enjoy it and yeah
thanks for watching so before even
before I even continued in the previous
tutorial are gutting twelve made up
comment on low gaming suggestion on what
I should do and it was a really good
suggestion on a method I should do
certain things right I did give my
reasons on why I wasn't exactly for it
or why didn't really a hundred percent
support it but they are really good
they're really good things to really
think about and really apply and what he
did was a good thing like I like when
people really suggested certain things
to me don't be scared don't feel like
I'm gonna shun you down or whatever I
will give my input but don't feel like
your input is in vain it was really good
input I like how he thought it outside
the box and that's how I want you guys
to think from now on I just think of
alternate methods right I'm not teaching
the most optimized way to do something
I'm teaching you the easiest way to do
it and it's up to you to optimize it or
make it best fit your program okay so
let us get started with this tutorial so
what we want to do now is let's go I
don't think I changed my map that XML
file let me just check the movies here
for you but I created a new layer and I
I use the same ground tile set and if
you look at the ground town set I added
a new image which is the statue and the
statues gonna serve significance in the
next tutorial
don't think I'll get to it in this
tutorial ah but this statue is gonna be
set up in our game worlds and if you
look at my map
we had the image this is gonna be
prevalent like we're gonna be talking
about this in the tutorial and I have a
bunch of X's and I have the coordinates
for the the stats right here so statues
gonna be on the layer above the ground
there and basically there's no what when
we see an X in our in our layer we want
to say don't create a tile for that
specific place right because it's not we
don't need a towel for here on this
layer right all we want to do is draw
the statue and so what we want to do we
want to say that when we see an X then
we want to not create a tile at all and
then when we actually see a number a
numerical number then we actually want
to create a tile for that so so we're
gonna go about that so we're gonna say
after the position we're gonna say if s
not equals or s sorry not a star
contains key letter X
and the reason why we put it after the
position is a little looping say we want
to draw this tile at this certain
position right put this next is gonna be
zero this is gonna be set to 32 64 96
128 and 160 right and what's gonna
happen if we don't increase the position
of time you see an X then when it comes
to drawing here it's gonna draw this at
the corner at zero on x position which
we do not want so what we do is we still
increase the x position but if it's not
set every every the contingent X and
we're not going to create a town for it
we're just gonna increase the position
and so on and so forth and so with that
being said we we were to draw the the
town accordingly and let us build this
and run this just to see if it runs
correctly and as you can see we have a
statue and nothing happens with the
statue but we we're gonna be adding in
some collision so again this is not the
most optimized way there's better ways
to do it but it's an easy way to really
handle updating collision and such so
what we're going to do is in our map
class we are going to make a reference
to player
and which we're gonna pass to our labor
class so we'll just put player down
there and so our update will take a
reference to player Oh
there's a period there and in our tile
and our update we're gonna take a
reference to player okay but before we
even get into why we've done that let's
go back to our later class and we're
gonna have a string we're gonna have a
public string called solid tiles and
we're also going to just have a string
called state and solid tiles gonna tell
us which tiles are indeed solid so if we
go to our map right here I've mentioned
that these three tiles are solid now
these are going to change in the next
tutorial but I would just setting up
some base collision right now so these
are the Towser
are solid on this layer and if we go
back to our later class what we're going
to do is we're going to set our state by
default so we're gonna say state is
equal to passive and there can only be
two states so it could be a passive
state in the solid state so if the
tolerance passes it means you can walk
through it if the tower solid it means
you cannot walk through the tile you get
a different states if you want like I
don't know I don't know what other
states we want but you can you can get
those whenever you can use them wherever
you see fit
and now I'm gonna save that of solid
tiles dot contains and we'll just put
you don't really have to put all this
but this is just to make it very precise
I guess so it contains value one
- string + : + value value - to string
and then move this over for you guys
I guess I can't + and I'll put on a new
line say plus the other square bracket
then we're gonna do some stuff and give

save solid tiles contains this right so
another bracket there so if it contains
itself it has like this then the first
number : the second number then this
square bracket then it it is apart that
means we that tells us all in town sorry
so we're gonna do is we're gonna say
that if it contains those then state is
equal to solve it now what we're gonna
do is we're going to pass States into
the load content of our tiles and what
we're gonna have to do is create a new
variable called state pass it in make it
a parameter
and set the value so now what we're
gonna do now that we've gotten if it's a
solid state or if it's not what we want
to do is we actually want to to do some
some collision so we're gonna say if
States is equal to solid then we're
going to get the players rectangle and
the tiles right so we're gonna say x is
equal to new rectangle and it's equal to
position our x position dot y and we
have the source right start with source
rect
daunt height and we're going to make
another rectangle and we'll just call it
player X and we'll say it's set to
player dot player dots image composition
X player dot image dot position dot y
and player image that source rect dot
with and player image source right
height hope you guys can see that I'll
move it over for you guys and we check
the caster's to it in so what I'm gonna
do is show this to the next line and
it's down there so voila so we've gotten
that set up and now we want to see if
they intersect with each other so we're
just gonna say if player rekt intersects
with tower X so if they intersect with
each other then we want to actually
the handle the collision so we're going
to say that if player dot velocity X
because right now we only have four way
movement right so if the velocity X is
like lesson 0 that means we were moving
left and if we're moving left then we
got to set the position so let me say a
player image dot position dot X is set
to correct dot right and we're going to
say else if player dot velocity X is
greater than 0 we're gonna say clear
image position dot X equal to tau R X
dot left subtract player image dot dot
source rect dot with and that might be
confusing to people so I'm just gonna
give you a visual example so uh let's
just create two rectangles so we have
one rectangle here and have another
rectangle here so the black rectangle is
our player and remember that the x
coordinate is right here that's the x
coordinate of the player and what's
gonna happen is we're going to move this
so free we're moving right and then we
whoops we clot
so we've collided bad bam bam ok
whatever
so we've collided and we want to know
where to place our plane once you've
collided so we set the preset the plea
we set the x position to tau rect da
letto should be diaper Tariq I left yep
so there'll be Tariq down the left side
of the towel rack subtract the source
width of the actual player and that will
set the x position in the correct
position so be this subtract the width
of this and now I'll be the x position
and that's where I've gotten that from
and I'm gonna have an else--if player
without velocity that Y was less than
zero
I mean we're moving up and position Y is
equal to tau wrecked down bottom and
we'll just put else you don't need the
elsif because they collided it has to do
one of these
so we'll say image dot position
dot Y is equal to tolerant top subtract
player image down so attracted on height
and if you want you can just set the
players velocity to zero but it doesn't
really matter if you want to set two if
you want to do it it's not really going
to change much but you can put that
there if you like and that is going to
handle the collision for us so let's run
this quickly and what built field and I
know what happened so first we've got to
put a reference to our player in our
gameplay screen and another reason why
it's not gonna work is we need to go
back to earlier class and we need to
have an update code now it's not always
the best - it's not the best to loop
through every single Tata update neither
the best to loop through every single
time to draw right there's ways to
optimize it but I'm gonna leave it to
you guys so you guys can like work on a
little bit you guys are having some
trouble optimization then feel free to
inbox me or leave a comment but I want
you guys to kind of do something
yourselves without my help to kind of
push you guys so you guys can work your
brains a little bit and what we're just
gonna saying we're just gonna say tile
update we're gonna pass in game time and
a reference to player and so that's
going to handle our kitchen for us so
hopefully this works for us let's see if
the collision works and it says objects
not set to reference of an object and
the problem is for this first layer we
don't have we don't specify any solid
tiles right and so it's it's no right
it's no for that layer so we have to do
is go to layer
dot CS and in the constructor we got to
set it to string.empty so that even if
we don't contain a solid tile if it's
the latest in containing these all the
tiles it'll still be able to load so now
we've loaded our gameplay I love walking
and been we've gotten collision in our
game so I believe my time is up
I could go a bit longer but I want to
