your video shoot now let's go into some
tips and tricks for the actual
production phase of your project first
you want to set up your camera wherever
you're thinking about shooting and look
at the background consider what's behind
your speaker if it's a busy background
like an office with a lot of clutter a
mess straighten up the area and don't
remove everything leave things in the
background that are tidy and relate to
the content and the environment if you
use a plain backdrop like a wall be sure
to put some distance between the subject
and the wall to provide some separation
generally 5 feet of separation is best
but every setting is different whatever
worked in one setting may not work in
the next you could also leave some space
to put your logo and text to further
drive home your message this tip might
seem obvious but putting your camera on
a tripod can add a lot of production
value to your video using a tripod will
give you stability the camera
exaggerates every little movement you
make and it's simply not good if it's
shaky this leads us to framing this is
extremely important your camera lens
should be at eye level with your subject
the person speaking should never have to
look down or up to the camera if the
subject is addressing the camera
directly put them in the center of the
frame like in this video watching right
now if the subjects not talking to the
camera but talking to someone else like
an interviewer frame your subject using
what we call the rule of thirds this
rule calls for placing the subject on
one side of the screen about a third of
the way into the frame they should face
a direction of the extra space in the
frame this is a common technique used in
television and documentaries you also
want to think about how close your
subject is in the frame look at your
shot and make sure the subject looks
good and if not adjust how close you are
in addition you need to make sure
there's not too much space above the
subjects head or that you haven't
chopped off the subjects head before you
hit record double check that the subject
is in focus even with auto settings
sometimes cameras will not focus on what
you want them to if there's any noise in
the environment you maybe didn't notice
before like an air conditioner
refrigerator you might consider turning
those off temporarily before you shoot
you also want headphones to make sure
you're getting good audio using just a
few of these concepts will improve your
video with the right knowledge making a
good video can be done on any budget I
