so now we've got this object here we've
got X cemetry on so now we can sculpt
our skull but I'm going to introduce one
more brush to you and that's going to be
the move brush so I'm going to turn off
polyframe here and we're going to hold
down shift to smooth and we're going to
out here's a period I'm glad this happen
so when I dragged this top area all the
way back that was like the like says 29
undos before you start sculpting again
it's going to ask you hey if you start
sculpting from this point I'm going to
get rid of all these undos in front of
you because it's got to start over again
you're going back to this point and it's
like you're branching off into a whole
other project here so you're going to
lose all those undos so which is of
course okay because that's what I wanted
to do something hit okay and then again
no more undos this way but we're
starting from this point here so I'm
hold that shift and sculpt here and
let's go ahead and talk about the move
brush we've got X symmetry here so we
can go ahead and start sculpting our
skull here and actually not I'm going to
sculpt all that shift and really smooth
this out quite a bit I'm trying to get
some draft on the face here and before
we end this basics is the brush intro
stuff we're going to be doing a little
bit of head sculpting so this will this
will come in handy so I'm going to push
this back here and maybe sculpt this
down back of the head now it's getting
kind of lumpy and I want to kind of
shape this a little bit better now you
can do quite a bit with the standard
brush but it is limited when it comes to
moving stuff around so let's talk about
the move brush and just brushes in
general so we're getting into the brush
palette now and and I'm not going to get
really heavy to the brush palette
because you know when you click on here
there's see a lot of brushes in there
and even better if you hold down control
there masking options control shift
there's modifier options so there's tons
of stuff to talk about want to keep it
simple we're gonna go up here to the
brush menu and we're gonna look for the
move brush so one way to do that is go
in here and hunt-and-peck so it's like
okay I'm in the MSO ver here and
but more move top a lot there it is
there's the move brush you can actually
go in here and you can click it now we
have the move brush selected that's not
ideal ideally if it's a brush you use a
lot you're going to set a hotkey for
that we're going to get to that in a
minute or in a while not really sure
when that's going to fall into place
here but an easy way to kind of get to a
brush you want is to hit the B key B as
in boy and that's going to launch
wherever your cursor is the brush menu
so instead of going up here and tapping
just have your cursor somewhere and hit
B the B key if you want to narrow it
down to your M brushes M is in move hit
em so you hit B then M and these are all
your M brushes that start with M and
you're going to see there's a little
orange key next to there's a little
orange letter next to the brush if you
see move which is actually selected here
that that letter right there is V so if
you have standard brush selected I'm
going to hit B M v as in Victor and
that'll change it to move so that's a
really easy way to navigate even if you
don't want to recomm memorize that last
if you use the brush a lot I would set a
hotkey if you use it a bit just
temporarily it's easy enough just
remember BM usually I go to somebody
else's computer to help them I'll just
remember eyes these temporarily
it's like BM v is move so I'll do BM v
that will select move or you're going to
do BM and then that's usually narrow
down enough you just go and select it so
now you've got the move brush so we
talked about standard which is basically
hold down alt to dig in don't hold down
alt to pull up hold down shift which is
the smooth brush modifier to smooth and
now we've got move so I'm going to get
BM v select the move brush and now if
you make your brush size big or small
just like with the standard brush I'm
going to tap s and then that's my brush
size or I can hold down spacebar and do
here's the intensity or draw size or you
can go up here to draw size change it up
here now depending on the size of your
brush with move selected you can
actually pull out like it's a fall-off
radius basically you can pull out areas
of the mesh you make your brush size
really big you can pull out huge make
huge changes in your brush here so what
I'm doing is I'm holding a tapping s
and I'm kind of making my brush size
bigger or smaller depending on the shape
I want I'm going to kind of pull these
areas in here pull these areas up maybe
shift the smooth pull this area back
smooth that forehead just a little bit
pull these cheekbones out eyeballs in
you know whatever you're trying to do
and again this is a very low res object
which is fine think of it like a
sculpting sketch it's like okay the
forms are kind of where I want them now
I can subdivide you've got smooth on so
it's going to average the vertices when
you said to buy that's okay you can hit
this divide button or you can hit
control D that'll add this abbis at a
subdivision level and now you can start
sculpting again so now we actually have
access to the move brush so when we're
sculpting in here and you want to make a
change a big change you can go in here
to your move brush so it's like okay
we're using the standard brush to kind
of sculpt this out sculpt this around
maybe get some brow ridges and you know
what it's like okay I need to actually
move some of the stuff around I want to
move his cheekbones up I'm gonna hit B M
V and that's going to grab my move brush
and then I can kind of move this stuff
around just like so by default when we L
it just did a quick save so if your mesh
disappears don't be scared just tap in
your document and rotate and that's kind
of a graphical thing go ahead and just
it saved a quick save for you so if you
hit comma and go to your quick save area
there's the last quick save just every
20 minutes is going to do that unless
you change those settings so we've got
this object here now when we first
launched up Z brush the brush Mini is
going to be docked over here so now that
we've talked about symmetry and go ahead
and turn that out or get rid of that
menu and I'm going to put my brush menu
back in here so the cool thing about the
brush menu is it'll actually save the
last used brushes for you so instead of
going BMV can go standard move standard
move they're all right there and as you
use more brushes so let's say we go in
here and just grab let's just grab some
of our clay and insert cube and whatever
that is and valleys and trim adaptive so
as I'm getting new ones it's actually
adding them to the bottom here which is
cool if you want to kind of limit these
you can actually hit this R key and I
will kind of get it back to just the
actually
ones I have saved down here but let's go
back to our standard brush I'm going to
hit B s to narrow down to my s brushes
and we're just going to hit standard
which is T so we're back to our standard
brush so we've got our standard bar
selected now going to do the same thing
for move which is B M V got our grabbed
or move brush so now these last two
selected or over here like I said you
can use that by all means feel free to
that's just kind of a quick area to do
hotkeys you can also drag them down here
or you can also assign hotkeys to them
so you can just go over here and grab
the last two you've used put them down
here if you'd like to once we get into
customizing menus you'll show you how to
do that or you can go B M V switch to
move and just kind of do it that way
