so a really good exercise to kind of get
used to transpose and multiple sub tools
is make kind of a pacman type character
and have him eating a sphere so how
we're gonna do that is let's go ahead
and preferences initialize ZBrush and
because we're starting out with a
primitive so here's my sphere 3d go into
edit mode and if we go down here to
initialize we can change our coverage
remember do this a while and go from 360
and kind of give them a pac-man mouth
cool now at this I'll set up the way I
want I'm gonna hit make polymesh3d
and this makes him a sculptable mesh if
I want to and you know what let's go
ahead and hit X symmetry now X symmetry
on this guy is actually in that
direction so I actually don't want to do
X symmetry I want to do looks like Y
symmetry so I'm gonna go here to
transform activate symmetry turn on Y
turn off X turn off my floor and now we
can put pac-man eyes on them so here's
my pac-man now right now he's kind of
looking up in the sky and it's kind of
dependent on my camera but I don't
really like him that way so I rotate him
down around a little bit so I'm gonna
hit R to go into rotate mode and with
rotate if I tap like in the middle here
that actually kind of works but it kind
of see I kind of start splitting it's
easy enough just to turn to perspective
off and then snap to the side and then
click and drag from the vert you want to
rotate around cuz that your anchor point
then out and now you can just grab this
outer one and just rotate around that
point you can kind of rotate in forward
if you hold down shift you can rotate
them in increments if you want or you
can let not hold out yet and kind of
just spin them around there we go
I like that pac-man so let's give him
something to eat so I need to append a
sphere and I don't want to pear append
the sphere that I've kind of put a
pac-man mouth on I'm gonna append a
regular sphere so it's go ahead and grab
that and the cool thing about appending
and an a primitive object is it
automatically turns it into a polymesh3d
object so I don't have to go up here and
choose make polymesh3d it already is if
it's appended it cannot be an initialize
primitive object it's already a polymesh
3d object ZBrush does that for you so
we've got our pac-man selected I'm gonna
hit the name to grab his little food
there and then make it smaller what we
can do is
II and then I go into scale mode and
because we already have that vert
selected right there and we're but we're
not across the x-axis what we do is we
scale this down it'll scale from that
vert point if we hit X on this object
it'll scale in the X direction which is
actually this away which we don't want
we could go in here and go to trans
transform across the Y axis and it'll go
across here and now if we do scale from
that center point it'll scale down
uniformly or what you can do because
it's right on the center of the world
there you can go to deformation and this
juice size XY and Z and that'll scale it
down however you want to do that but to
kind of slow down the part where I was
talking about transforming the x axis
the reason why if we hit because we made
our pac-man along so he was actually
transformers across the y axis now all
my other sub tools have to be kind of
transformed across the y axis and that
kind of sucks so what I'm gonna do is go
ahead and delete the sphere for now and
generally speaking when you're making an
object you want them to be Z forward
because Z Birchers kind of set up to
have symmetry and the x axis by default
so instead of fighting ZBrush let's go
ahead and set this up so that he is z
forward instead of whatever he is now
which is looks like he's X forward so if
we go over here to the floor here you're
gonna see number 1 he's actually
upside-down so when I was making my
pac-man I was like you know what ah he's
upside down not a huge deal we'll go
ahead and flip him around one easy way
to do that if you'll remember so we got
a mirror just mirror him and the Y and
then I'll flip them upside down oh I'm
sorry we haven't rotated him yet so we
actually have to mirror him in the Z
there we go so Miriam and the Z and I'll
flip him so that he's at least
right-side up so his floor is underneath
his butt here and we zoom in now he is
actually looks like Z forward let's see
transform across the x axis which is
what we want and it looks like we have
to rotate him this way so his face is
turning the other way
actually it's turn on why there we go so
that other floor was confusing me just
with the Y floor you can kind of I can
orient myself a little bit better
because I know the Y is actually on the
bottom so now he's actually lying on his
side so what I'm gonna do is go over
here to the deformation and rotate and
I'm just gonna play with this I rotate Y
is not what I want
rotate X is what I want and I wanted to
be rotated 90 so I'm gonna undo that and
I'm gonna type in 90 and now his butt is
on the floor and his mouth needs to be
pointing Z forward which unfortunately
is this blue arrow pointing this way so
I need him to be rotated this away I can
do that with my transpose if I want to
so I can go out of X symmetry mode and
then I can click with W I can click
right along any of these center points
hold down shift and then with rotate
chosen hold down shift I'm just gonna
rotate but in order to do this very very
precisely what I'm gonna do is actually
go to deformation and do a rotate not
across the X but across the Y actually
negative 90 I'm gonna do that Y selected
negative 90
so now after all that we have a pac-man
with his butt on the floor and his mouth
pointing z forward believe me it's worth
getting the guy set up correctly up
front because if you don't you're gonna
have a lot of problems just remembering
as it mirrored in the Y or the Z
transform and I mirrored in the X and
the y across symmetry now we know and
foreign transport and transform mode we
activate symmetry by hitting X and we're
on X symmetry he is X symmetrical across
this way and his mouth is the forward so
anything we put here and move to another
program he's gonna be facing front this
will be your front view this will be a
top view this will be your bottom view
so it's very very useful just to kind of
get everything set up correctly
