and we've talked about dynamesh as a
single object before but what you can do
and what I didn't talk about is you can
actually combine two different objects
and turn it into one solid object what
does that mean so right now when you're
sculpting on this object if I go and
like the clay brush I can actually
sculpt on this other object separately
from the pack the big pac-man head and
the reason I'm able to does because
these are actually two separate sub
tools if I turn on transparent you can
actually see them hiding out in there
and if I turn on ghost you can actually
seem a little bit better and you can
actually sculpt on him so that was kind
of the thing I was gonna bring up is if
you turn off ghost you can't it won't
let you sculpt on the underlying meshes
you can see him but you can't sculpt on
him if you turn on ghost you can see him
and you can sculpt on him so it's kind
of up to you so we've got to give
pac-man a tongue here since we if we
turn off transparent we can't really
grab it I mean clay brush will go and
grab it standard brush tends not to or
it has a little bit of a harder time but
if you turn on transparent with ghosts
you absolutely can so let's go ahead and
give them a tongue here and put a line
right down the middle so we can do a
standard brush to kind of dig that in
then use a clay brush along the sides to
kind of dig that out and one more brush
we didn't really talk about was a pinch
brush so if I go into bp4 pinch and when
I use this on hard use it on organic -
you can use the pinch brush VPI and if
there's a line that is like you know
what that's a nice line but I wish it
was tighter just use the pinch brush and
kind of bring those two surfaces
together Reed dynamesh now because the
dynamesh resolution is pretty low you
might lose it so let's make a little bit
thicker so here's our big thick tongue
line and then we're gonna use pinch BPI
to kind of pinch these together are you
dynamesh smooth there we go so you can
use pinch to your advantage and you can
also use pinch in situations where you
want to actually pinch really large
objects so I want to make these teeth
thinner all I got to do is go around the
side and kind of pinch them down and
generally when human teeth they have the
big square teeth in the back and then
pinch to the front you can actually just
use pinch to kind of thin out these
front ones the same thing that these on
the big square - kind of a pinch front
now it's kind of grabbing its tongue a
little bit but that's okay if we didn't
want to
what's the other thing we learned
masking so I can mask its tongue out
here pulling on control having go into
the pinch brush BPI
and then pinch this front tooth pinch
these front teeth then go out of
transparency modes we can kind of see
how things are looking there okay I'm
gonna hold down go into standard mode
and kind of knock those back a little
bit and then control drag control drag
again to read dynamesh and there we go
however these are both still separate
sub tools which really is fine in fact I
would say a lot of times use separate
sub tools in order to kind of work with
them so like when you're doing let's say
a body and you want to put a t-shirt on
them or a pair of gloves or something
make a separate sub tool for the glove
so that you can model the glove
separately from the body you know that
makes a lot of sense but sometimes
you're gonna want to kind of combine
things together to sculpt on them all
together so if you wanted to sculpt on
these teeth and the head together or the
tongue and the head together because
right now if I go in here and kind of
sculpt this back but I want to kind of
sculpt everything together what I can do
is I can merge these together and then
dynamesh them together but in order for
me to do that they have to be one sub
tool so right now our sub tool menu has
three different sub tools we've got our
pac-man head got our pac-man teeth which
is actually just a pac-man buried inside
of them with teeth showing and then
whenever pac-man dots don't care about
the pac-man right now all i care about
is these top two so i want to merge this
sub tool onto his teeth sub tool if you
don't want to get confused you can
actually click this one and go to rename
and call this one head and we can click
these teeth and we can call him teeth
just type that in now we have head and
teeth so I want to select the head go
down here to the sub tool merge options
and choose merge down it's gonna ask you
is it okay to merge or do you want to
cancel and it say you know what it's
always okay it's good to click that so
now we have head and teeth all one sub
tool now they are all one sub tool but
there's still one there's still separate
objects
what am I making that laying by that is
I can hold down ctrl shift
well we haven't talked about that yet
but I can hold down shift and I can
smooth this tongue
and his mouth together but you can still
see they're actually separate still
separate objects we go into polyframe
mode they're actually not different
polygroups but just really quickly I'm
gonna do and all the groups there you go
so now you can see that the head and the
teeth and the tongue are still separate
polygroups because they're actually
separate objects one thing you can do a
transpose if I hit W and I control tap
on a poly group that will actually mask
that entire polygroup all at once that's
kind of a neat thing to do
so we've isolated this poly group with
masking so now what I can do is go with
my move brush and I can actually go
ahead and make changes to this as well
as go ahead and bring his tongue out
here use standard brush to kind of knock
these back in there turnoff polyframe
now I want to read ina mesh this cuz I'm
making some serious changes however when
I do that it dynamesh everything
together so let's talk a little bit more
about dynamesh sometimes this is a good
thing so like now what I can do is these
are all one object now I can hold down
shift and it treats them all as one
object because it is all one object now
they're different polygroups and we'll
get the poly groups in a bit but you can
see that all of this is all stitched
together
if I hit ctrl W which basically just
polygroups visible in this case you can
see that it's all in poly group and
these are all stitched together now if I
undo that back to where these were
separate objects and if you hold down
control shift if you tap something you
can actually just isolate that one
polygroup they're gonna see these are
still separate non vert welded objects
as soon as I control drag because I have
dynamesh on it'll merge them all
together so let's use that to our
advantage when we want to so right now I
want to hit W ctrl tap the green and
then hit go into a standard brush mode
over here and then smooth it out hold
down alt and make sure that these are
where I want it while they're separate
sub tools and now when I'm happy with
that it's like okay you know what I want
to merge these all into one object as a
dynamesh so go down here to geometry
make sure dynamesh is on and because we
had dynamesh on for the original object
the object we merged it with is actually
an inherited
the dynamesh properties of that object
which will come in handy later on so
blurr is off project is off and the
resolution is at 128 if we want to bump
this up let's do 256 hit enter and
because we have done am I've selected
all you have to do is control drag out
here and then I'll dynamesh everything
together now these are still separate
polygroups however if I hit control
shift it doesn't show me the whole
object because there is no more whole
object this is a one single object now
if I hit control W if I don't make it
all on poly group and we'll get the poly
groups in a bit and now I've a hold
shift and smooth it all all smooth it as
one single dynamesh object here so
that's a little bit more dynamesh now
that we're getting comfortable and now
we can sculpt all of these things
together and just using a couple things
we've learned so far if we mask out the
tongue here so now we know how to mask
as well as if we want to we can control
tap in our document to invert hit W go
ahead and anchor the tongue back here
move it out now we can mask and
transpose our tongue we can rotate if we
want and actually with the transpose
line if you hold down alt it'll actually
do a couple of weird things that you can
do and we get into um organic sculpting
and stuff that'll be a little bit more
relevant that you can kind of use that
to your advantage so we can actually
transpose that out if you want to you
can use snake hook you can kind of do
some crazy tongue things here and you
can also do your inflate brush which
we've talked about smooth with all this
back and of course this is just a
dynamesh and if you if it looks like
you're getting off axis a little bit go
back to your mirror and weld and just I
would do this every once in a while and
make sure that geometry modified
topology mirror and weld across the X
there we go so it look like I was a
little bit off I just went ahead and
married and welded it back and now turn
off lazy mouse
and you know you can sculpt whatever you
want with this little pac-men tube so
I'm gonna go ahead and do this all the
way back to our solid pac-man here cool
