and you can kind of do the same thing
with the other clip brushes so let's go
ahead and do control shift and just like
the masking brush all of these clipping
brushes are just basically the clip
brush with a different curve modifier so
if we chose circle it would be a clip
circle but just to keep it simple and
hold down control shift and do clip
circle now this one
they have clip circle and clip circle
Center if we do clip circle then it'll
actually allow us to drag out any lips
so if we drag out a clip circle any area
that that circles going over if you hold
down alt it'll clip it back to that
circle as well as if you hold down if
you clip it back and you don't hold down
alt it'll actually clip everything
outside of that circle to to that line
so it protected this and then it clipped
everything back so either I'll do that
you either roll down alt to clip
everything inside the circle out or you
don't hold down alt and click everything
outside of the circle to the edge of the
circle either way if you do turn on
square and turn on Center that'll allow
you to drag out a perfect circle from
where you started the stroke and again
you can hold down I'll actually you
can't press spacebar and move this thing
around you're kind of set so something
to keep in mind as well as you can also
do clip circle Center and that's
basically clip circle with Center and
square turned on and while we're talking
about clip circle Center if you do clip
circle and you hold down alt it'll clip
like I was saying or it'll clip to this
like I was saying however there is a
caveat if you're that little cross
crosses over into the mesh and you hold
down alt it'll actually clip a circle
and it'll clip everything with all the
geometry within that circle to the
profile of that circle sometimes if
you're doing like a recessed screw port
type thing that's kind of useful but
generally speaking I mean if it's
something you can try it if you know if
you want to be like you know and I want
to kind of like a recessed screw port
here you can hold down the ctrl shift
make sure that cross crosses over into
the mesh hold down alt and it'll do that
if you do the opposite if you don't hold
down alt it'll behave as behave as
properly just when you have this
cross over into your mesh and hold down
alt that it does that kind of recess the
bolt and I guess that's based on I don't
know what that thickness is based on so
and if you want a dynamesh that you can
and then you can go in here with your
clay brush you can kind of recess this
and I don't know you got a little screw
board I guess so I don't know how useful
that'll be but just something to keep in
mind if it isn't behaving correctly it's
because you did control shift and then
it crossed over the threshold and then
it did something like that as opposed to
control shift and make sure that doesn't
cross over the threshold of the mesh
that little cross
hold on Alton and it'll clip through so
use those definitely to your advantage
so back to click curve now clip curve is
a little bit different than masks
because masks is a little bit more
forgiving so if I'm asked this out and
double tap and then single tap and
follow the curve of this head and then
double tap single tap and just kind of
do all sorts of crazy stuff like this
even then it had a little bit of a hard
time clip will definitely have a hard
time basically if you want to do
something that complicated you're going
to have to do it in different passes so
what I mean by that is if I double tap
here and then I follow this Bezier curve
see how the gradients still kind of nice
and it all points one direction as soon
as I double tap here it kind of gets
confused and I'm a double tap here and
now it's like it's pointing the gradient
is like all over the place it's like
it's crossing back and forth across that
line it's gonna have very unpredictable
results so if I want to do something
that complex what I'll have to do is
hold that ctrl shift and double tap here
to make it sharp and basically your that
you're keeping the gradient nice so I'm
gonna clip all the way through here and
then I'm gonna do to undo another pass
or I clip here double tap and then busy
a curve it's not a big deal it's all
about keeping things nice now this one
will probably break
yeah breaks along here so in this case
of a double tap follow the Bezier curve
around and then maybe stop here this
one's a little bit tricky is the
trickier shape than I would normally do
the little tap all the way out you know
what else you can do you can hold down
control and it's got a mask pin I'm
gonna mask mask the bottom of this thing
and now when I do this I can hold that
control shift double tap and then I
really don't care because it's not gonna
affect anything here and it kind of left
a little bit of a artifact and there
abouts okay cuz I'm gonna clean this out
so I'm gonna mask the top of this thing
now and then control shift and just kind
of follow this back and actually that
whole middle section was kind of ugly so
I'm gonna undo that and thinking about
this now what I would do is I would like
clip this back here once and then I
would go grab clip circle Center maybe
and clip all this and hold down alt and
then I would go back to clip curve and
clip this out and then you know what
maybe I'm gonna make this sharpteeth so
I'm gonna clip here and again this
gradients pointing straight as one to
make sure it doesn't overlap this
because if it overlaps that it's gonna
want to clip that as well so I don't
want to do that I want to start my clip
here and then double tap DoubleTap
double tap DoubleTap and let's see if it
does that yeah so that's something you
can do as well so now I'm gonna undo
this all the way back to just plain Jane
open mouth man and then I called an ctrl
shift so we've talked about Clips circle
the clip circle Center clip rectangle is
just like clip circle only it's a
rectangle so you're gonna hold down alt
without the cross crossing over the
geometry and it'll clip out out now the
thing about clip rectangle is it will do
this sometimes where it wants to force
it into that kind of square shape which
in case in which case I would probably
use the clip curve it seems to be a
little bit more forgiving like so
there's something keep in mind and but
if you do use clip rectangle and it does
cross over into the mess you can't hold
down alt and give it a rectangle aligned
but it is some kind of nasty things and
then if you want to clip everything to
this rectangle shape you can certainly
just clip everything down to a rectangle
shape from the side same thing with a
circle and you can actually use clipping
to kind of clean up holes and meshes and
let's see if I want to
yeah let's go ahead so what I'm gonna do
is go into clip curve and clip curve
will actually clip across an axis so if
I have X symmetry turned on it will
actually clip on both sides unlike trim
and then I can go ahead and read
dynamesh this and then the reason I read
dynamesh is because remember it
basically mushed all that geometry back
to this plane so there's a lot of nasty
geometry so I just read dynamesh to get
rid of that so now we have kind of a
cheese wheel thing going on and if I
want to poke a hole through this I'm
gonna skip ahead and do a quick brush
insert cylinder and ignore that ignore
what I just did we'll get to that later
so we have a hole in here and let's say
you know what it's kind of a it's got a
hole in our mesh but it's kind of nasty
what you can do is you can use your clip
circle to kind of go through here and
hold down alt and then I'll just totally
clean that up
Reed dynamesh and you're good to go now
you're gonna see as I was messing this
thing around I kind of get kind of got
lumpy on the side just go to the front
clip curve clip that straight back
boom you're nice and cleaned up if you
want to clip it back a little bit more
no problem now you've got a nice super
clean line and use clip brushes all the
time for a hard edge concept sculpting
just to get clean shapes same thing for
the rectangle if you want to change that
to a circle you know what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna actually make that circle
smaller so kind of the math circle and
I'm gonna mask out the edges of that
circle and I'm gonna invert that and
then you know what I'm gonna do I'm
gonna do W and I'm gonna hit this to put
it right at the center of the object and
then I'm gonna do e which is scale and
I'm gonna scale it in only I'm going to
turn on L sim which is local sim and oh
it's not the center so I'm gonna hit X
to go out of X symmetry I'm gonna click
this to go right make it go right in the
middle of the object click this red one
which is your X to make it go straight
out and now I'm gonna do e with
else--and mmm it's probably gonna let me
so you know I'm gonna do I'm going to do
let's go up
I'm gonna use move so I'm gonna move
this in and then go to the blue I'm
gonna move to go with this in and then
if I read dynamesh this it's just a
smaller circle so now if I want to go in
here to clip clip rectangle and you know
what let's make it a square so I'm gonna
turn on square I'm gonna turn on Center
drag that out and because it's not
crushed that cross isn't crossing over
into a mesh I can hold down alt and
it'll clip it to our perfect square and
then go in here and smooth that out if I
want to so a lot of different ways to
use clipping to your advantage and I
realize as I was doing that I was kind
of doing a lot of things fast that kind
of thing do the problem basically what I
did was I have W turned on now when you
tap on your object and you have X on and
you want to remember when we rolled over
this when you tap the circle and it was
said you click it to reset your
transpose if you have X symmetry turned
on it doesn't look like it centers that
into the middle of the object so I had
to turn X off and then click it again
and that put the anchor right in the
center of the bounding box of this
object my bounding box I just mean if
you were to draw a box around the
outermost points of this object that
would be its bounding box and it finds
the center of that and when it finds the
center of that we have this axis here
which just goes straight out to the side
and we have this axis here which goes
straight to the top which is fortuitous
and we can definitely use those to our
advantage as you can see like I did when
I scale down the object here so if I go
on to mask
let's do mask pin go ahead and mask this
out invert that mask now I tried but you
can sometimes do it actually I bet I can
do now so I gotta go hit X to turn that
back into X symmetry mode so now that
I've masked this out I'm gonna drag I'm
gonna click no one do this I'm gonna
scale this down from this point here so
I'm gonna tap right here and I'm gonna
hit e to scale and I'ma scale back to
that point and because it's on a flat
plane if I don't have else M on what
will it do yeah so if I have L sim
turned off and L sim is basically the
local symmetry if I have that turned off
what it's going to want to do is scale
to the center of the obduracy world
space if I have that turned on it's
going
use local symmetry on this side and
scaled a straight back so I think that's
what I want to use yeah and then I can
just control drag now I do have a little
artifact in here from nasty geo just
going to your H polish brush make it
kind of big and just hold down alt you
just clean that up no point in being too
granular about it or being too exact
it's fine and if you want to be extra
sure you can always go down to beat beat
beat geometry modified topology and
mirror and weld and just make sure your
X and your Y your X cemetry is fine and
you can always turn off local sent me
for not using it because that'll
sometimes mess you up when we get into
mirroring and welding objects I'm going
to turn on turn that off and then do
another mirror and well just to be sure
yeah we're safe so that's basically our
object and we've gone through here and
we does the advanced masking and
clipping and stuff so that's good stuff
