045 Armored Dock Worker Video Lecture | Zbrush: Create Realistic Modelling - Professional Skills

okay so this is the last part and this
is where I take the the dockworker and I
just had some armor to them and I didn't
matter which character it was I could
have added it to any of them but he was
the funnest for me to look at so and the
reason I did this is because up to this
point we've done a bunch of organic
style sculpting so a lot of creature
character clothing type stuff and this
is just to demonstrate that the exact
same techniques are used to kind of
block out hard edge hard surface
sculpting and I don't really
differentiate between the two begin
because when I'm kind of something I'd
use the exact same tools now I might use
them more of an insert mesh brush
library or for mech stuff or maybe a
little more trim and mage polish for
armor stuff but at the end of the day if
I'm just getting something quit getting
like ideas out it's a bunch of clay
brush standard brush to you know move
brush and you're gonna see and if you go
to my youtube channel or or go to lumi
studios movie 3d studios.com you're
gonna see there's there's free courses
on there where i take where i give
examples of concept in out my GDC female
armor or the mech mechanical head helmet
sculpt that I did for the qixels sweet
guys you'll see exactly how I did that
and it's the same stuff that I did for
that I would use for a creature sculpt
for an organic type sculpt to just I use
some of the brushes a little bit more so
the brush a little bit less maybe I'll
use the move a Q to pull out to a corner
or I use a trim or polish a little bit
more but the end of the day standard
brush clay brush move brush get my ideas
out quickly make sure it's what I want
and then go in and do a bunch of hard
surface modeling whatever that is and
when we get into more project based
stuff we'll certainly do the hardest
because the harder stuff is fun and it's
fun to do in ZBrush it's fun to do in
other programs it's fun to use both
honestly it's not a but I'm not
exclusive to any one thing it's just I
like learning new things I'm gonna learn
new things there are new programs I'm
gonna use the your strengths and
weaknesses or sometimes it's their
strengths and their strengths like just
because I use one program doesn't mean
you can do it another program and it
just means I'm using this program to do
it and there's why not
could I do everything in one program
probably would it be as efficient maybe
maybe not
would it be fun may I I don't know
ZBrush is a pretty fun program and it's
set up for artists so it is fun to work
in ZBrush that's why I use it a lot but
at the end of the day it's you know I
like using lots of things so but for
getting my ideas how quickly do it all
in not all of it I do a lot of it NZ
brush so we're just carving in shapes
here so we're gonna carving in stuff
it's standard brush pretty high easy
intensity or maybe Damien's standard
brush to kind of get some nice tight
lines in there panel lines pinch brush
you want to kind of clean up the panel
lines I keep my resolution fairly
concept Hilo just because I don't need a
super high resolution but if you do
notice that you are sculpting in a lot
of cool stuff and you're losing it all
consider upping your resolution a little
bit as well as if you want to go into
your smooth brushes and you hit the
comma key and go into your lightbox and
grab brushes smooth and then go turn on
smooth stronger it's actually a brush
that if I talked about this in part one
but you can go the smooth hold down
shift and then in the brush settings go
down to the the very bottom there's
smooth brush options and you can change
that number to like smooth stronger
which is basically I have a lot of
polygons but I do want to actually
smooth this stuff out so that way you
can kind of have the best of both worlds
you can work with a little bit more
resolution but still be able to make
large smooth changes if your sonic line
but generally speaking I'll start low
and then once I get my forms figured out
then I'll up the resolution a little bit
once I get those figured out then if you
go to my YouTube channel you'll kind of
be able to see where I take it past that
point and once we get into maybe more
project based stuff we'll get into okay
and part two is gets into this a little
bit where I'm gonna break this piece off
and refine it and then once I refine it
a little bit separately then I decide do
I want to rebuild this do I want to
rebuild and ZBrush I wanna rebuild on
something else that those kind of
decisions and then making it and how do
I run a rebuild it wanna be I rebuild a
sub D mesh do I want to just dynamesh it
at high resolution and cut in a bunch of
detail a little bit of
my crease images you know a lot of
different ways you can do things and
none of them are necessarily right or
wrong they're just whatever's fastest
for you or makes the most sense for the
project you're working on I'm I tend to
are try not to speak in absolutes as in
this is how you would always do
something or I would only use this
program or this technique for this type
of that that that's I've never known
anybody to speak anybody that knows
exactly how something should be done is
usually somebody who only knows how to
do it one way
