Unlocking unofficial overclocking in MSI Afterburner Video Lecture | MSI Afterburner: Understanding the Fundamentals - Game Development

hi welcome to another tutorial and this
one's just a quick little guide on how
to unlock the unofficial overclocking in
msi afterburner our reason you'd want to
do this is because it increases the
overclocking limit for the GPU core you
can see our we're using a 7850 that has
a 860 megahertz GPU clock speed by
default we can only increase that to
1,000 megahertz this card we know can go
higher than that in fact they can hit
about 1100 megahertz but using MSI and
all the other overclocking tools out
there won't let us go that high without
doing a little tweaking so what we're
going to do to change this is go to our
program files in msi afterburner we
already have this open for convenience
but once you have that open here's what
you do you want to right-click on the
MSI Afterburner CFG file you're going to
go into properties and from their
security tab essentially what we're
doing here is going to our username and
making sure that we have full control
that file so we can modify it just hit
apply ok ok again and then you're going
to want to go into the file itself we
find that notepad is the easiest to do
this in it just puts it in a nice layout
alright so you're going to want to
scroll all the way down to the bottom
and down here we have unofficial
overclocking EUL a we also have
unofficial overclocking mode now by
default the EUL a is blank and
overclocking mode is in 0 so you want to
take that zero and turn it into a 1 and
then in the EUL a section you have to do
this and essentially it just says two
msi we understand that we're going
beyond the limitations so what it says
is I confirm that I am aware of
unofficial overclocking limitations and
fully understand the MSI will not
provide me support on it
so essentially you just know you know
you're going beyond the limits and
that's fine
so now you want to save it close and
close msi afterburner
from there you're going to want to open
MSI Afterburner again and now you can
see we can hit 1000 120 megahertz on the
GPU clock so that puts us just over what
this GPU can actually achieve and it
gives us our max limit this is a really
cool little tweak for extreme
overclockers who really want the best
you know performance when they're
overclocking and don't want to have to
deal with those what's a nice way to put
it you know limitations imposed by
companies you don't want you to go too
