then when you go to learn it as guitar
player and it's not what you think it is
right you're going like where's it

I went to go learn this I was so
perplexed by how cool it was how it
wasn't in a place I thought it would be
mm-hmm
it turns out we have a different type of
harmonization here we're coming off like
the main chord which in this in this
whole entire part is really an e or an
e7 how do you think about it's almost
kind of like a mysterious and Cortona
yeah thing wrapped in just rock history
and this and this is doing pages like
Forte you know I'm as you probably know
from watching my challenge Sean's
channel you know the sound the Blues is
when I put these minor pentatonic sorr
minor riffs on top of dominant chords
and this is no exception here here we
have something that's rooted in the e7
chord and the riff that Sean played
which is the basic rib is coming off
this minor pentatonic
we all know shape then we come instead
calm feel can be here we slide and I
have a video about was a deacon trucking
some leads up on risk or the major third
that note right there is not in the
pentatonic and they're on that it's in
the court that's what kind of makes it
an interesting Griffith baby you're
first learning like I remember when I
first learned that I was like this is
pretty close to that minor pentatonic
shape yes but with one extra not
actually no and you go what is that
until you realize like it's based on the
court and that right there is the glue
honestly it's the glue of the harmony
sure all right so when you look at this
harmony of line here I'll play slowly
for you
twelve Fred the gene we have twelve
hammer on thirteen and then you go the B
string hammer from twelve fourteen back
to 13 and then we're gonna Bend up just
talked about the first part that so you
play your riff Boden donut one two ready
go started so his mind that he live at

the harmony awful because they're gonna
talk about it
right and okay but the interesting thing
about it is like okay you start with an
air is that a no here's the thing it's
like it should right so it's kind of
like our clue and maybe yes what we're
doing exactly and that is almost it's
not a harmony that's a melody based off
of each seventh chord in this blues
fashion yeah and so what does he do well
he goes back to the e7 chord not that
rib he starts with what J Paige loves

he loves the major third so he starts
him a gene which how does a G compared
to an E chord it's the minor third yeah
okay so he comes from a minor third to
the major third that's his favorite
thing right there and then he goes Toby
well how does the B I'll relate to an E
chord it's the faith alright so now
we're starting on whoa we're sliding
into a major third yeah we're going to a
five and and not for nothing it is this
very next note to me that makes the riff
so special yes
that's not a unison harmony real army
type thing no no that is a sixth yeah
okay and now the reason the note sticks
out so much is because it's a six and
how often do you hear harmonies up sixth
in it in the blues what we do is a six
sometimes but not enough not enough not
enough for the thing is is that six
really pops out and so is this whole
riff we're looking at major thirds five
six and back to the major third so sure
I'm gonna play that again and you'll
hear the harmony one two ready go

and now so the first half of the roof we
can say well it comes from you know we
can say the e chord he likes to put the
sixth in it but everything else comes
from the core itself the very next part
takes that six and the key to really
steal it for me is to bend the half step
Bend up to the flat seven to the D and
it's like well how does a flat set well
how is a D you know compared to the E
chord it is the flat seven and you're
like oh and everything else that follows
plus seven back to six five six five
major third you're doing this minor
pentatonic thing with that major third
in it and it's the major third in your
riff and in my riff that bond together
they can act and create increases so
here we have a centralized chord we have
the main melody which is based on this
open string you know minor pentatonic
and then a melody based off the chord up
on the higher register that completes
this whole tonal package of amazing
guitar work off amazing very so really
another way to write harmonies is based
off the chord in which your riff is
coming from take all the notes
especially an extended chord which is a
nice seven core technically if there's
four notes in that chord even and he
sits sure yeah either way those are just
different noses you can play around with
yeah you have to necessarily back I am I
gonna add a major third year if ethic no
forgetting forget that yeah that's why
our pages are important because it
teaches you where those chord tones are
yeah and they might come in handy more
than just like arpeggio bass playing it
just teaches you where the chord tones
are you can use those as harmonies for
other lines
