hello this is music tech help guy and
welcome to episode 13 of biologic Pro 10
video tutorial series in this video
we'll take a look at the drag modes as
well as the nudge options there are five
drag options in total you have overlap
no overlap X fade shuffle right and
shuffle left so let's go with overlap
for now and what overlap does is when
you drag a region click and drag a
region on top of another region what it
does is just overlaps that region on top
of the region in front of it so as you
can see here there's a separating point
between the two regions but if I click
on it you'll see that that full region
is actually hidden and tucked under the
other region you'll also see this dotted
line which shows the end point of the
region that's tucked under this region I
should also mention that just because
these are overlapping you're not gonna
hear both of them at the same time
you're only gonna hear the one that's on
top and the one on top is always gonna
be the one that's on the right next
let's go over no overlap and if we do
the same thing we did before you'll see
that the first region is actually
automatically trimmed based on the
placement of the second region so this
is great because there's no overlap and
if we move this one out of the way
you'll see that there's actually empty
space in between but fortunately
trimming and logic is non-destructive so
you can always get the rest of that
waveform back just by trimming so before
we go over the other drag modes let's
listen to what we've got going on here

all right so we've got this one kick
drum down here and what we're gonna do
is we're going to copy and paste this
and duplicate it out through the whole
phrase here and we're gonna do it on
every quarter note so in order to do
that we're gonna change our snap mode to
beat so we can have one kick drum per
beat and we're gonna change our drag
mode to we'll just keep it on no overlap
so what I'm gonna do is hold option to
drag this to the right drop it on the
next quarter note and so forth and so on
and it'll automatically trim those now
I'd be lying to you if I said this was
the easiest way to do that do this it's
actually easier if you use the repeat
function so let's undo that and let's
zoom out so we can see this a little bit
better and it's important that we make
each one of these kick drums exactly one
beat in length because when we use the
repeat function every kick drum every
slice if you will is going to be
adjacent to the next so if we didn't do
this the kick drum might start to fall
out of time so to pull up the repeat
function dialogue all you do is click on
the the region that you want to repeat
hit command R and what that'll do is
bring up the repeat regions events
dialog you type in the number of copies
you want in my case I want 16 total so
I'm repeating it 15 times you hit OK and
then it repeats creates 15 repetitions
of it

all right so that worked out just fine
the next thing I want to show you is the
ex fade drag mode so let's go ahead and
let's overlap these with no overlap and
as I showed you in a previous video when
you're editing two adjacent regions
right next to each other you get this
little Junction marker or Junction fade
or whatever you want to call it
let's change my snap nodes to ticks and
then let's find a good edit point in
here somewhere you typically don't want
to just leave your edit open like that
so what you can do is you can choose X
fade which stands for crossfade and what
this does is it automatically crossfades
overlapping regions so if I make one of
these regions overlap the next one it'll
automatically create even but just by a
little bit it'll automatically create a
crossfade for you so this makes editing
waveforms really easy because you no
longer have to go grab your fade tool
and you also don't even have to use the
shift control function that I showed you
guys a few videos back so this is one of
those editing functions that I keep on
almost all the time while I'm editing
audio the last two drag modes are
shuffle left and shuffle right and
essentially what these do is they allow
us to reorder regions in a series so
let's go ahead and choose shuffle right
and for most of the shuffle functions it
doesn't really matter whether you choose
shuffle right or shuffle left so as you
can see I have four regions in a series
here I've intentionally labeled them one
two three four and change their colors
all the different colors if I were to
use overlap mode and just pull region
three out of the series here it would
leave a blank spot in between two and
four when we use a shuffle mode it
actually will shuffle over the regions
in between so I pull this over what it
does is it moves four to the left and
then puts three on the end so it the
reason why it's called shuffle is it's a
lot like shuffling a deck of cards
except we now are shuffling regions
rather than cards so I can do the same
thing on the left side here if I pull
too to the left
it puts two in front of one so now I
have two one three four instead of one
two three four and like I said before
most of the shuffle functions work the
same for shuffle
left and shuffle right so shuffle left
here we basically get the same result as
we had before with shuffle right alright
so let's get these regions back in the
right order here and we're going to
temporarily turn off we're gonna turn
off shuffle mode will go to overlap mode
and let's pull number four out and pull
number one out now a secondary function
of shuffle mode is that you can drag a
region close to a clip and it'll
automatically snap to that clip so
basically what it does is it takes non
adjacent clips with gaps in between and
fills those gaps and makes those clips
be adjacent to each other and like
before shuffle right and shuffle left
doesn't make any difference here it
works the same with both modes so why
are there are two shuffle modes well
let's you shuffle right and let's delete
clip number three
as you can see clips one and two
shuffled to the right to fill the gap
left by number three and then if we use
shuffle left and delete clip three clip
four shuffles to the left so really
that's the only situation where using
shuffle left or right really matters is
when you're deleting a clip in a series
when you're moving a clip out of the
series or within the series it doesn't
matter at all so before we move on to
nudging let's listen again to what we've
got going on here

all right that sounds pretty good but
the filter based the the sweep sound in
the filter base seems to be a little bit
ahead of the offbeat or it's supposed to
be so what I want to do is I want to
nudge these two regions a little bit to
the right to put them more in time so
the way we can do that is using our
toolbar we can use our nudge values up
here so some of our nudge values are
standard division values like bar beat
division tick frames milliseconds and
even samples so I'm going to stick with
beat just for now just to demonstrate it
and if you hit the nudge right or nudge
left here it'll bump those regions to
the right or to the left
now Nutting by a beat as well it's a bit
too much i I need something a little
more subtle so I'm going to undo that
and the value I'm going to use is 10
milliseconds so it's gonna nudge
everything to the left or to the right
by 10 milliseconds and again we can use
the arrows up here to nudge left or
right or you can hold option and hit
left or right on your keyboard so let me
zoom in here a bit so you can see this
better and then I'll just hold option
and hit right on my keyboard and what
it'll do is it'll nudge those by 10
milliseconds at a time for each eight
for each key press so now that we've
nudged that to the right a little bit
let's listen to this and see if the
filter sweep matches up with the up beat
a little better

all right so that sounds a lot better
now that we nudged it over the filter
sweep is exactly where it needs to be
and it doesn't sound out of time like it
did before
I should also mention that there's
actually key commands to all of the
nudge values so if there's one
particular nudge value you use the key
command for it's going to be control
option and then something so for
instance like control option T sets your
nudge value to ticks automatically and
all of those key commands can be found
under the Edit menu so I hope you
