Poem - 2 The Laburnum Top - Class 11 Hornbill English Video Lecture

welcome back once again to this poetry
session my dear friends today I am here
with a poem that is called the labyrinth
talk by Ted use it has been three
included in the syllabus for class 11
cvse this year so I hope my dear friends
my dear children my dear students he
will enjoy this forum section very much
so I start with a point it will be
followed by the recitation then I will
give you the theme in very short time
summary what meaning what devices then
find the word then I'll give you think
it out that is the question and answers
from the poem that is given at the end
of the chapter at the end of the lesson
so I hope that you will enjoy this
session here we go with the poet first
Ted use why Ted use was a British poet
he was born on 17 August 1930 in ioke
Shire in England according to the
critics
he is the best poet of his generation
and one of the greatest writers of the
20th century he was married to American
poet Sylvia Plath's from 1956 until 1963
his last kwatak work birthday letters
that was published in 1998 dealt with
their relationship his first collection
the hawk in the rain published in 1957
was highly acclaimed however probably
chr''o published in 1970 was his most
significant work uses early poetic works
dealt with nature and savagery of
animals he served as a poet laureate of
the United Kingdom from 1956 until his
death in 1998 so dear friends we are at

now the style of the poem is it is
written in free verse free verse means
it is free from any limitations of rhyme
or regular meter irregular so it is
written in free verse style now the
summary the laburnum top is silent quiet
and still it is September afternoon full
of sunlight it is autumn season the
lavender tree is full of yellow leaves
all the seeds of the laburnum tree have
fallen soon a goldfinch comes it starts
twitching that means moving and chirping
chirping and screeching of the birds
sound all on a sudden there is a
movement in the end of the branch just
like a lizard smooth a lot and abrupt
she she means the mother bird mother
Goldfinch enters the thick part that is
the foliage that is the foliage of the
tree a machine of chattering shaking and
wobbling starts up on the treetop the
whole tree starts shaking the nest is
the Machine and the Goldfinch is the
engine of a family she feeds the
nestlings as if she adds fuel to the
machine then moves out to the end of a
branch showing her striped stripe means
bad face then with a strange sharp
chirping whistle she flies away towards
the sky
the laburnum tree once again becomes
silent dear friends now the next part is
what meanings laburnum laburnum is a
small European tree which is also found
in India in different name the disc all
Indian in laburnum which has hanging
classes of yellow flowers followed by
slender pods containing poisonous seeds

barred bird means having stripes right

September sunlight it is alliteration
you can call it also sibilance because
it is the repetition of soft sound cheer
up cheer up is onomatopoeia because it
is a sound word referring to sound sleek
as a leisure this is similar because the
comparison between two dissimilar things
and alert and abrupt this is as soon as
as soon as is a repetition of vowel
sound machine here machine is metaphor
it actually the nest is compared to be a
machine chittering it is again mono

and the ending of the point answer the
beginning and the ending of the poem
express the solitude of the Lavenham
tree the very first line of the poem
depicts the silence of the Lavenham top
similarly the last line concludes in the
emptiness means the silence of the

compared what is the basis of this
comparison the poet has compared the
bird's movement with that of a lizard
the movement of a lizard is sleek sudden
and abrupt exactly the Goldfinch had the
same movements when it perched on the
