hey guys this is music tech help guy
today I want to show you guys how to
create a very simple easy to do
filtered vocal echo effect so what I've
got here is this sort of EDM pop track
where there's like this riser sort of
build up right before the drop this is
actually the third time in the song that
this this build up happens and the third
time around I want to vary it a little
bit by having some of the vocals echo
themselves so let me play what we have
first and then I'll go back and show you
how to create this very simple filtered
echo effect lovin me I'm on top of the
world
so move up

all right so that's like the the main
sort of hook during the build-up and
these are all of our vocal tracks that
are being used here there's five vocals
there's two leads that are pan left and
right in the three harmonies so what I
want to do is I want to make a copy of
all of these together as one stereo
track you could sort of just copy and
paste these down and make a duplicate of
all five channels I just don't want to
have that many channels so I'm actually
going to sum all five of these vocal
channels into a new stereo aux track so
right now all five of these vocal tracks
are going to this vocal bus down here
via bus eight and so bus eight is going
to our vocal bus here so over these I'm
going to create a new stereo audio track
option command n I'm just going to call
this filtered echo there we go I'm also
going to change the format of the track
to stereo from mono for the input I'm
going to choose one of my available
buses
I know offhand I think up through bus
twelve is being used so I'll choose buss
13 and then what I'm going to do is on
all of these all five of these tracks
I'm going to create a send to buss 13
and we're going to print the sum of all
these down to our filtered echo track
with all of the panning because some of
these are panned left some are panned
right so and all the effects as well
although I don't believe it will it'll
print the the time-based effects I have
going to like a vocal doubler and a
reverb here so it'll just print
basically the dry signal with all the EQ
and compression and panning so I'm going
to make the input of this bus 13 hit X
to open up the mixer and for my five
vocal tracks I'm going to create a bus
going to channel 13 as well pull the
gain up a bit just below unity there you
go
and so now I should be able to just arm
this track for recording and hit our to
record
but what I want
that's what everybody
all right so now I can go back I can
turn off all of those sends because they
don't need to use them anymore I'll just
go ahead and get rid of those I change
the input on a new audio track just to
know input and I should be able to just
solo this filtered vocal out and hear it
by itself we'll just make sure
everything got in there so if you got it
got it
get me a shaman yep it's completely dry
there's no reverb or delay on it which
is what I want right now and what we're
going to do is we're going to change the
snap mode to bar or to be actually and
I'm going to put this on relative value
snap to relative value and I'm actually
going to bump this entire recording over
by two beats because I want it to be a
half note behind everything else now
we're not going to use every single word
in our like filtered vocal here we're
just going to use a few spots so let me
solo the the original lead vocal and on
the filtered vocal let's create that
filtered effect so what I'm going to do
first is I'm putting this on the second
insert and I'll explain why just a
moment but I'm going to go to my EQ so
use the channel EQ let's pull out a lot
of the low-end and a lot of the high-end
I'm going to sort of boost up the mid
the mid highs a bit let's just see what
that sounds like first by itself so if
you got it got it
cool and just to create some variation
in this the space of the recording the
the panning what I'm going to do is I'm
actually going to throw the it's under
utility the gain plug-in before the EQ
and the only thing I'm doing with the
gain plug-in is I'm just going to swap
the left and right channel that's all so
anything that was on the right is now
going to be on the left and vice versa
that's just I know I just want to give
the the panning a little bit of
variation and some difference but
the the lead vocal and the the filtered
vocal so if you got it cool so let's
listen to that filtered effect with the
lead
okay so that's like way way too
convoluted what I'm gonna do is I'm
gonna turn off the snap mode for a
moment and make sure have my marquee
tool up the only parts I want to keep
the resource she says give me all you
got and the gadot parts so I'm going to
just basically do got it gimme all you
got and I'm only going to take just that
one little part of the hook so basically
from here to here with the marquee tool
you can select a range and click on it
to separate it show me the alcohol cuz
that's what I want if you got it got it
give me your gun show me that's the last
one eleven because that's what I want if
you got it got it give me your gun show
me the money babe there we go just going
to add a quick fade in and fade out on
all those you go to your region
parameters after selecting all four of
them
pull up your fade in pull up your fade
out it's just uh even though there's not
really anything being played at that
point you can you want probably want to
fade in just a little bit it just keeps
clicks and pops from happening just in
case there's a there's a you know a bit
of signal even though that you know it's
not in the middle of a middle of when
she's singing so let's see what this
sounds like now just all the vocals in
so cuz that's what that's kind of a cool
effect um let's just make sure that our
filtered echo effect is also going to my
vocal reverb bus just like the lead
vocals are and let's listen to this with
the whole song in there

cool so it's a very simple thing to do
it's just sort of enhances the lead
vocal a little bit and like I said in my
in my and in my case you know this sort
of hook happens three times in the song
and I just wanted to do something a
little bit different with the third
build up the third hook to make it
different than the first two so I hope
