in this mobile testing tutorial I am
going to show you how silk mobile
automation tool can be used to test
mobile application on real Android
mobile device to make it easier to
understand I have divided the complete
tutorial in following subtopics we will
talk about each in detail one by one
let's first start with mobile device
setup
to enable developer options in Android
phone go to setting developer options
and then select stay away and USB
debugging checkbox it will talk for USB
debugging confirmation click on OK
button to proceed once the developer
option is checked in mobile connect
mobile device to computer to make sure
your mobile device is recognized by
Machine go to command prompt and type
adb devices which should be blue mobile
device ID if the device ID is not
displayed in command prompt then either
developer option in phone is not enabled
or correct mobile USB driver is mythic
on computer demo version of silk mobile
can be downloaded from Borland calm if
you are seeing or previously worked on C
test mobile testing automation tool you
would observe lot of similarities in C

now to add the mobile or tablet first
time in silk mobile go to the device
menu and click on add device then select
the type of device you want to connect
for mobile application testing here in
this tutorial I am adding android mobile
to show how silk mobile works if the
Android device is already correctly
connected through USB as described in
the first section of this tutorial
silk mobile will automatically detects
it and show mobile configuration on Eid
Android device window click on OK button
to confirm selected device will then
appear in device view along with the
status to make mobile device screen
appear on your machine monitored select
the device and then click the open
device icon this will launch mobile
screen on your monitor
the application manager is a tool to
install an instrument mobile application
to be tested in order to investigate its
native and web objects using silk mobile
objects by feature for this demo I am
going to use eBay mobile application and
import in application manager once the
application is imported to the
application manager you can perform
operation like install uninstall launch
close clear data etc on real mobile
device or emulator once the application
is installed on mobile device you should
be all set for recording first test for
recording the test sequence in silk
mobile go to the test tab and click on
record button choose the device you wish
to record on and select instrumented
mobile application to be tested go to
the device screen that appears on your
computer screen and do the exact
sequence of actions you want in your
test
when complete sequence is recorded
written to silk mobile and click on stop
recording button the test script will
then appear in test tab
test scenario recorded before can be
edited to have new command or
verification point or screen capture
included at any place in the destro in
the recorded test I am inserting
verification point in the end of test to
check if a specific text is displayed
correctly and also inserting sync Ahmad
between the steps to have some delay
between two actions
once the editing is done we are good to
execute script on mobile device to
execute silk mobile tests sequence go to
test tab and click on play button
application will be launched in mobile
and the steps were recorded and added
while editing will be executed in the
order runtime execution status can be
seen in the log will right below the
test tab
when the test execution is completed
silk mobile launches test execution
report in the browser which includes
summary and detailed execution status
summary includes execution runtime and
tests mobile device information while
detailed execution status includes
information of all the steps and
verification performed along with
screenshots silk mobile offers
