Beneficial Shortcut Keys in iMovie 10.0.1 | Tutorial 19 Video Lecture | iMovie Mac: Basics to Advanced - Professional Skills

hello Asian gents wrote here and welcome
to normal films today I'm going to be
continuing our iMovie tutorials and
today we're gonna be covering actually
command keys or shortcut keys I'm not
really sure what you guys may call them
but I basically call it quick keys and
just using your keyboard to your
advantage making your life easier and
basically editing videos a lot faster
and sooner so let's begin with the
simplest one of all the one that I
learned should like should have learned
a long time ago
I mean bow a lot sooner than coz let's
do let's just say let me just tell you
I'm when I first started iMovie I didn't
I didn't know the spacebar the spacebar
basically you tap it and you the video
starts where you had your cursor let's
say I have my cursor right here I hit
the spacebar and it starts the video now
what I used to do in the old version
iMovie is I would select the clip like
select where I want it I'll go straight
down with my mouse because I know each
time I moved it would go to a different
part then I go to this video and I hit
that play button like that took forever
it then I finally found out this
spacebar and I'm like wow this saves a
whole lot more time so yeah
please remember the spacebar if you're
beginning in YouTube I mean you're
beginning on iMovie the spacebar is
gonna save you a lot of time and it's
it's just definitely recommended for use
now another top one went up on my list
is the undo button I mean the Gwen Keith
one do let's say I accidentally let's
say split this clip here and there's
actually a command key for that as well
you can actually split any clip like say
you wanted to without hitting the right
like the right mouse button you just
want to split like it right here you can
hit command B and we'll split it right
what are you happy to cursor so I'm
gonna hit command Z which will undo both
of those split clips and that's that's
the undo button command Z is undo and
I'll give you guys show you guys a list
of all these in just a little bit but
I'll probably list the most common one
used in my in the description video in
the description of this video and
that'll be like the spacebar the command
do in the the split clip like command B
I use often actually because when I
let's say I select a huge clip and then
I don't want like parts of the clip in
in my main project so I look I'm gonna
drag this huge clip and into my main
project now let's say like I find a part
here I'm like I don't want this I don't
want I don't want like I don't want
anything between here and here so you
can like find the area here hit command
B find the area here and then click on
it hit coming on B well you don't have
to click on it you can even just like
wherever your cursor is at that's where
I'll cut they'll cut right here do ya
now I'm going to hit command I'm gonna
hold command I mean and I'm gonna select
both these clips while holding command
and then I'm gonna I'm gonna let go of
command I'm just hit delete on my
keyboard and there yeah both those clips
are gone and now I just have what I
wanted in my main project but overall
I'm just gonna delete both of these here
and here we are back to our project now
I can suck out we covered clan B to
split the clip quick key got spacebar we
got done do bar didn't you also have the
standard if you select the clip you want
to copy it you don't want to just hit
the plus button and put it in your
project or you don't want to you don't
want to drag it into your project you
can actually just simply command C which
is copies it and command V to paste it
which is very often it's common it's
used in like word processing let's say
you like you write an essay it's often
used to use a copy and paste and use
like you use cout and use like delete
those it's really common like I use it a
lot like just in case there's like
because you have in word documents you
have to move around and stuff all the
time like I like to like organize my
word documents so I would actually copy
and paste on the edited and let's say
you were getting like references from
the internet you're gonna come on copy
and paste that comes in handy as well
but other than that the main ones is the
spacebar and you have the command Z to
undo something that you may have not
wanted to do and coming
B to split a clip in a certain area that
you wanted to split and believe there
was another one that I had but the rest
of these if you go to help up here in
the toolbar
I'm actually actually in this toolbar
you can she see if you just go over to
each tab you'll see what what's good
command key on the right hand side here
is to every single one of these actions
let's say you use something an iMovie
very often and like like the adjustments
you're gonna be using that a lot you get
3 it opens it up for you automatically
you just like the clip and there you are
now you can adjust that clip and then
hit three the number two the number
three to put it away again like that's
very common for me that's why I know
that key now like say you have something
you do very often and you want to see if
there's a command key for you can
actually search for it up here or you
can go up to help keyboard shortcuts and
it will actually open up gold the
shortcuts for iMovie go to keyboard
shortcuts and will show you all the
iMovie keyboard shortcuts in there's
quite a bit here and I doubt you'll
memorize all of them no I like it's not
like I'm saying I know them all either
but there's a lot of them here and
there's some that really come in handy
honestly so I'd be sure to check that
out that's command shortcuts and they
will definitely make your life easier so
remember the spacebar to play a clip
from where you wanna remember a command
Z to undo if you make a mistake in your
video or editing command Z to undo and
remember command B to split a clip which
is those are the three main ones that I
have found so far thus far easy and made
my life a lot easier editing videos and
command Z to undo it yeah there you go
