Cropping a Clip in iMovie 10.0.2 | Tutorial 34 Video Lecture | iMovie Mac: Basics to Advanced - Professional Skills

hello agent gents row here and welcome
to know in our films today we're going
to be continuing our iMovie tutorials
and in this tutorial Graham be covering
crop feature in more detail and a
particular way actually be cropping just
one segment of my clip that way we can
get at the quickest zooming in on one
part of the video and the rest will be
normal so I'm going to start off by
breaking this clip into two three pieces
here so you can either go right click
and go to split clip or what I like to
do is just use the command key you just
hit command be split it right there I'm
going to hit command be split it right
there now we have three different
segments of the clip now the one we want
a crop is not crop our middle clip here
as you can see this is a full-on footage
oh my brother and I on the spa
everything's a hole and the same area
it's a nice steady clip so I'm going to
select the middle clip here now I'm
gonna go up to the top right hand corner
of iMovie two adjustments and then
there's a cropped feature right here
right I'm cooking you click crop and
right now it's set on fit meaning it's
going to be the entire footage all over
the video and then we're going to do is
going to go straight to crop and now you
can see we got this outline border here
and wherever this boxes that's the part
that's going to be in your main project
window me and what I'm going to
basically zoom into is going to zoom in
to my face and the only bad thing about
this cropping is a it actually doesn't
give you much freedom yet you have to
stay within the aspect ratio of iMovie
which sometimes it's good if you if you
don't really need to do like a knowledge
crop but this this is what's offers so
I'm gonna go straight into my face crop
all the way to my face well that might
be a bit much let's get my hands in here
as well and there we go even gives you a
little line I don't know if you see
right here popping up where you can line
it up deck to the centered video snow go
to my face and there we go so crop is
set we've cropped it and we just hit
this little checkbox here confirming the
crop as you can see adjusted the crop
now go play our first segment right here
and go straight through a crop of my
face
I'm talking and I actually have them
volume muted in this tutorial and then
we go we're going back to the normal
crop and this can be used in variety of
ways also if you're doing something like
this you might I might suggest or you
may want to do something like you go to
cropping again adjustments select the
clip cropping and you might want to do
something like Ken Burns Ken Burns is
basically it will start at a point so we
might want to start at this point here
and then we might want to end well this
is a start point you'll arm left hand
corner of the screen it shows right here
this end let's start so we want the
start we want it to start off big now
and you just click you just click on it
click on it before to switch which one
you're going to adjust so we want to
start big and I'm going to have it go
down small like this here select that
and then also actually going to split
the clip again okay we just want the
only the beginning like what I did just
now the entire clip like it's going to
go from from the first clip it's going
to start zooming in the entire clip to
my face as you can see here now what we
want to do is we only want it to zoom in
for first part and then zoom out before
it goes straight to the next clip it
just like to the third clip so we're
going to do is we actually gonna break
this up down into smaller clips I my
head command B to split right there now
we got 1.3 second clip now I'm going to
hit command be right here to split it
again so now what we have we're going to
go to our middle middle section the part
we just want to stay the same go to crop
we're actually going to adjust it you
know put it all the way down bottom
right hand corner and then line it up
bread right about see right right above
my head that way I can actually see
where my crop is that and then we're
gonna go with our first clip crop Ken
Burns again and I'm going to have it
start go from big and we're going to
have an end see let me line this up so
it looks nice corner put it up just
above my head
and then now the ending clip the Gorgon
crop pin burns but instead of endless
actually we're going to go to let
reverse these two we're going to have it
end on the big and when have it start
right here that way it looks nice it's
just above my head there we go and then
you can see what I just did here like
I'm gonna play the clip and it looks a
lot nicer for when I'm talking soo min
and I'm talking you can even adjust the
zoom and make it longer and then zooms
back out for when we wanted to talk back
in full footage yeah that's about it for
this tutorial you guys some and I
thought I would make an utter to toe I
previously made the tutorial on cropping
but I thought would make another one to
fully fully discuss all the benefits of
cropping and how you can you use it I
