How to Crop; Ken Burns & Fit in iMovie 10.1.2 | Tutorial 87 Video Lecture | iMovie Mac: Basics to Advanced - Professional Skills

hello ladies and gents row here and
welcome to nono films today we're going
to continue our iMovie tutorials and in
this tutorial I'm going to show you guys
how to crop and I'm basically updating
my cropping video that I made about one
year ago and that had a lot of feedback
on it and I wanted to make a new version
because it's been about 10 versions up
since that video so let's go ahead and
jump straight into iMovie it's version
ten point one point two and I have an
image here download using this example
but you can do this on video image or
whatever you choose I'm here in my
project already my tutorial project I
believe and I currently do not have any
footage within my actual project but I
do have an able share that I'm going to
use so I'm not within my actual library
here before I even place it in my
project I'm going to select that image
and I'm gonna go to the top right hand
corner here where it says the cropping
option right here and I'm going to click
on this and drop it down and then choose
to the left here I have this little crop
button crop the clip and I'm going to go
ahead and click on this and from here I
can adjust it and crop it to however we
want for example if I want those just
the planets in the video can go ahead
and just click on that and select I mean
border it so it's just boarded for the
planets and then hit that little
checkbox at the top right hand corner
and it will crop it directly straight to
that portion of the actual image I
wanted to say video for some reason but
now that we have that cropped we can
also actually rotate this and make it an
upside-down plants just like that or an
ounce it doesn't look like upside down
there
but and then I can rotate it again with
these options at the top right hand
corner you can also reset all your
changes just like that if you didn't
like any of the changes you made and I
hit the check box again apply crop
adjustments and it will apply them just
like that stuff now we're gonna go ahead
and drop that image straight into our
actual project and that now we have
options to different kind of cropping it
looks like my iMovie is actually running
there goes on them so now that I have
this image here it's about four seconds
long it says and I'm gonna have it
selected entire thing and we're gonna go
up to the top right hand corner again
and go straight to the cropping options
now you'll notice that it'll be more
than likely defaulted to can burn
or crop to fit or fit Ken Burns you can
actually use to zoom in and out for
example as you know is right here bottom
left-hand corner of this box that says
start and end meaning that for example
if I make the start be like this and the
end like this it will basically from
start will start sumed in like this and
throughout the four seconds it will end
up to be the large screen and let me
just show you that if I hit the apply
button let me show you that from the
beginning and you'll notice the image it
just moves and it moves from start to
finish just like I showed you
so that's Ken Burns of the crop effect
but you may be just looking at the crop
to fill and you can right here you can
crop to fill this little tab here will
actually allow you a just the cropping
just based upon the resolution of your
video and the mine appeared is 1080p so
it's going to be the standard but keep
in mind that cropping when you're right
here of the actual image you can crop
freely you can crop however you want
before you even put it in your actual
project but when you're in actual and
already in your project and you're
trying to crop you cannot crop freely it
sets it based upon your video footage so
now that we have this image here we'll
go back to the crop option and you can
just use fit which is basically the
entire image on crop to fill which is
however you want it based upon your
actual video footage and then Ken Burns
is start to finish or finish to start
depending on how you want to adjust
these as well and then I also you have
these rotating options again just like
in the previous crop section you can
also go ahead and click that checkbox
again and after you've set your crop and
how you want to crop the video for
example I'm just going to go ahead and
crop it start to finish just like that
or you can actually just do it start big
and then finish well nope click on it
again and then finish it zoomed in on
the planets just like we did it earlier
click that little checkbox and now
you'll notice that we're zooming out
from the planets
and straight into the entire image and
that's it for cropping in iMovie be sure
