Hi! I'm Samir. Let us continue our
journey to explore some more tricks to
calculate the product of two numbers
faster
Let us begin by taking my 996 x 8 as an
example. Here our bases would be
1000 for 996 and 10 for 8. The next
step would be to find the differences
which would be -4 and -2 respectively. We
can now proceed to write down our answer
which would be in 3 parts.Let's begin by
trying to write our third part first which would
be nothing but the product of the
differences,-4 and -2 , which will give us 8. To
write down our second part we will have
to choose as many digits from the
larger number from right hand side as
is the difference in the number of the 0's
in the bases which in our case it 3-1, 2. So 996 will be split as 9 and 96. 96 would
come in the second part and 9 would go in the first part along with the difference obtained
from the second number which is -2, giving us the first part of our answer as 7. Now we
can write down our final answer by clubbing all these parts and the number of digits
in the third part would always be equal to the number
of zeros in the base of the smaller
number. So we have our final answer as
7968
Let us take 993 x 103 as an example. Here our bases would
be 1000 and 100 respectively and our
differences would be -7 and +3. So
now let us proceed to write down our
answer which would be in 3 parts. Let us
begin by 3 rd part, which would be nothing but product of our differences which is
-7 x +3 , which is -21. To obtain our second part we will have to take the larger
number and take as many digits from the
right as is the difference in the number
of 0's in our bases, which in our case is 3-2, 1.
So 993 will be split as 99 and 3. So 3 would come in the second
part and 99 would from the first part along
with the difference obtained from the second
which is +3 so making it 99+3, 102.Now we can get our final answer
by clubbing these three parts.Here comes
in our rule 2, that none of the parts
can be negative so to make the third
part positive will have to borrow one
from the second part which will make it
3-1, 2 and the third part will become
100- 21, making it 79. So our
final answer would be 102279 and the
number of digits in the 3rd part would
always be equal to the number of zeros
in the base of the smaller number. Let us
now take 9992 x 93 as an example. Here
our bases would be 10000 and 100
respectively and our differences would be
-8 and -7. Let us now proceed to write
down our answer which would be in 3 parts.
Let's begin by 3rd part which would be the product of the differences , -8 x -7
giving + 56. To obtain the second part we
will have to take as many digits from
the larger number as is the difference in the number of zeros in our bases
which in our case would be
4-2, 2. So we will split
the number 9992 into 99 and 92.
So our second part will get 92 and the
first but will have 99 along
with the difference obtained from the second
part which was -7 making it
99+( -7 ),as 92. we can now
club these three parts and get our
final answer which would be 929256. This is
