FAQs on IELTS Speaking Test Series - 2 Video Lecture - Speaking for IELTS

1. What is the format of the IELTS speaking test?
Ans. The IELTS speaking test consists of three parts. In Part 1, the examiner will ask you general questions about yourself, your family, your hobbies, etc. In Part 2, you will be given a topic and you will have one minute to prepare a short speech on that topic. You will then have two minutes to speak on the topic. In Part 3, the examiner will ask you further questions related to the topic in Part 2.
2. How is the speaking test assessed?
Ans. The speaking test is assessed based on four criteria: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. Each criterion is given a band score from 0 to 9, and the average of these scores will determine your overall speaking band score.
3. Can I use informal language in the speaking test?
Ans. While it is important to speak naturally and conversationally in the speaking test, it is recommended to use formal language as much as possible. Using too much informal language can affect your score in terms of lexical resource and grammatical range and accuracy.
4. How can I improve my pronunciation for the speaking test?
Ans. To improve your pronunciation, you can practice listening to and imitating native English speakers. You can also work on specific sounds or words that you find challenging. It is also helpful to record yourself speaking and listen back to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, working with a language tutor or taking pronunciation classes can also be beneficial.
5. Can I ask the examiner to repeat or clarify a question during the speaking test?
Ans. Yes, you can ask the examiner to repeat or clarify a question if you didn't understand it. However, it is important to do so politely and not excessively. Asking for clarification once or twice is acceptable, but constantly asking the examiner to repeat or explain the question may negatively affect your fluency and coherence score.
