Should I learn C# before Unity?
C is useful for writing games because it gives
you hardware level control of video and audio.
And C# is a variant of C.
C# is the C language on the dot-net platform.
C# is more useful for web applications delivered
via a Microsoft server than gaming.
I heard it was valuable in the gaming world.
You could use JavaScript instead.
It is easier to learn, and you can find and
then download sample code from other people's
sites to start learning it.
Is JavaScript in Unity called UnityScript?
That's a whole other discussion.
You can write entire games in JavaScript and
create websites with it, so it is a good place
for a beginner.
C# is better than UnityScript and JavaScript.
C# has a lot more documentation than UnityScript,
but JavaScript in gaming has a lot of resources.
And if you learn C#, you can get a job in
enterprise software development, something
that regularly pays much more than game development.
When would you say C# is better for gaming?
C# is better if you're doing a fast paced
action game, like a shoot-em-up video game
or something with fancy sound effects and
3D video.
Call of Duty and some of those other games
are among the best sellers of all time, selling
billions more than the most-watched movies
of all time.
C# has better performance, but only if you
are an advanced developer.
If you're a beginner, getting experience with
JavaScript is going to get you a job sooner.
And you don't have to mess with drivers and
sound card settings for simple games.
Another benefit of C# is that you gain access
to other IDE, something other than Mono.
But Unity has simple interfaces for JavaScript.
So what should I do?
C# has higher paying opportunities, but JavaScript
gets me in faster.
If you are new to Unity and don't know JavaScript
or Unity, learn JavaScript.
Start earning money debugging websites or
creating games while you learn C# and Unity.
