single key or one-way key ammeter
voltmeter rheostat 10 ohm resistor of
approximately 2 ohm resistance sandpaper
procedure rub the bare ends of the
connecting wires with sandpaper so that
bright shining copper metal is seen
remove the plug from the one-way key
connect tightly the key the rheostat of
10 ohm only the ammeter and the resistor
in series with the connecting wires to
the dry cell
connect a Walt meter in parallel to the
resistor
make sure that positive and negative
terminals of voltmeter and ammeter are
connected correctly
if there is a zero error in ammeter or
Walt meter corrected with the help of
adjustment screw insert the black key
and check that ammeter and voltmeter
show deflection now adjust the slider of
the rheostat such that the ammeter shows
a current of zero point one zero ampere
read the value of potential difference
from the voltmeter record the values of
current and potential difference again
adjust the slider of the rheostat such
that ammeter shows a current of 0.20
ampere read the value of potential
difference from Walt meter and record it
repeat the experiment four more times
for the values of current zero point
three ampere
0.4 ampere
zero point 5 ampere and zero point six
ampere
and in each case read and record
potential difference remove the black
key after finishing experiment
calculate the mean resistance of the
