In the preparation of P4O6, a mixture of N2 and oxygen is used instead of pure oxygen. The reason is:- a)Pure oxygen will form ozone in presence of P.

If pure O2 gas used it will further oxidise P4O6 to P4O10. so here N2 helps in preventing further oxidation.
