Consider the following statements:
1. In the British parliamentary system, the Prime Minister must be a member of the House of Commons.
2. India's Parliament holds sovereignty similar to the British Parliament due to federalism.
3. The concept of a "shadow cabinet" exists in the Indian parliamentary system.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
  • a)
    1 Only
  • b)
    1 and 2 Only
  • c)
    1 and 3 Only
  • d)
    1, 2 and 3
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?

Let's examine each statement in detail:
1. In the British parliamentary system, the Prime Minister must be a member of the House of Commons.
- This statement is correct. In the United Kingdom, it is a constitutional convention that the Prime Minister is a member of the House of Commons. This ensures that the Prime Minister is directly accountable to the elected house of Parliament.
2. India's Parliament holds sovereignty similar to the British Parliament due to federalism.
- This statement is incorrect. Unlike the British Parliament, which holds sovereignty, the Indian Parliament does not have similar absolute powers. India's Parliament operates within the constraints of a written Constitution, federalism, judicial review, and the protection of fundamental rights.
3. The concept of a "shadow cabinet" exists in the Indian parliamentary system.
- This statement is incorrect. The "shadow cabinet" is a feature unique to the British parliamentary system, where opposition members are prepared for future ministerial roles. This concept does not exist in the Indian parliamentary system.
Therefore, the correct answer is Option A: 1 Only.

  • d)

Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

Ias Masters answered
  • Statement-I: The Kadar tribe is indeed recognized as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) by the Government of India. This is a fact as per the provided information.
  • Statement-II: However, the statement that the Kadar tribe primarily relies on agriculture for sustenance is incorrect. The information states that while some members of the Kadar tribe have recently engaged in small-scale agriculture and wage labor, they continue to heavily depend on forest produce. Traditionally, they have been known for their hunter-gatherer lifestyle and extensive knowledge of forest resources, relying on gathering honey, fruits, tubers, and medicinal plants for sustenance.
Therefore, Statement-I is correct based on the provided information, but Statement-II is incorrect as it does not accurately reflect the primary livelihood source of the Kadar tribe.

Consider the following statements:
Statement-I:
The PMFBY scheme covers all farmers growing notified crops in a notified area during the season who have insurable interest in the crop.
Statement-II:
In FY24, the gross direct premium underwritten for crop insurance declined despite government efforts to expand farm sector insurance.
Which one of the following is correct in respect of the above statements?
... more

Statement-I correctly reflects the eligibility criteria for farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), where all farmers growing notified crops in a notified area during the season with insurable interest are covered. This aligns with the objectives of the scheme to provide insurance coverage and financial support to farmers in case of crop failure due to natural calamities.

However, Statement-II inaccurately states that in FY24, the gross direct premium underwritten for crop insurance declined despite government efforts to expand farm sector insurance. The correct data from the provided text indicates that the gross direct premium underwritten actually declined by 4.17% to Rs 30,677 crore from Rs 32,011 crore in the previous year. This decline does not necessarily reflect a decrease in government efforts to expand crop insurance coverage, as other factors could have influenced the decrease in premium underwritten.

Therefore, Statement-I is correct as per the information provided, while Statement-II is incorrect based on the actual data presented in the text.

Statement 1 and 2 are not correct:
What is the External Debt of a country?
  • It refers to money borrowed from a source outside the country. External debt has to be paid back in the currency in which it is borrowed.
  • Sources External debt can be obtained from foreign commercial banks, international financial institutions like International Monetay Fund (IMF), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB) etc and from the government of foreign nations.
