Ns = 120f/p
where,
Ns = synchronous speed in rpm
f = supply frequency in Hz
p = number of poles

s = (Ns - N)/Ns
where,
N = actual speed in rpm

s = (1500 - 1440)/1500 = 0.04 or 4%
- Now, the number of poles can be calculated as,
