All questions of Ozone Depletion for Grade 6 Exam

Which of the following is not correctly matched?
  • a)
    Acidic oxides - P2O5, NO2, Cl2O7
  • b)
Basic oxides - Na2O, CaO, MgO
  • c)
Neutral oxides - CO2, CO, BeO
  • d)
Amphoteric oxides - ZnO, SnO, Al2O3
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

Gaurav Kumar answered
Neutral oxide- oxides which do not react with acid or base are neutral. But here CO2 is an acidic oxide and BeO dissolves in strongly acidic or basic solutions. Thus BeO is an amphoteric oxide.

The correct order of acidic strength is
  • a)
    K2O > CaO > MgO
  • b)
    CO2 > N2O5 > SO3
  • c)
    Na2O > MgO > Al2O3
  • d)
    Cl2O7 > SO2 > P4O10
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?

Hansa Sharma answered
The species Cl2O7, SO2 and P4O10 are the anhydrides of HClO4, H2SO3 and H3PO4 respectively. The acid strength of these acids follows the order HClO4 > H2SO3 > H3PO4. The corresponding anhydrides also follow the same order.
