TROPICAL GRASSLANDS
FEATURES
Mean annual rainfall ranges from 80 – 160 cm
Rainfall decreases with distance from equator.
It is crucial that the rainfall is concentrated in six or
eight months of the year, followed by a long period of
drought when fires can occur.
If the rain were well distributed throughout the year,
many such areas would become tropical forest.
Mean annual temperature is greater than 18° C.
Days are hot and nights are cold.
This extreme diurnal range of temperature is another
characteristic feature.
