INTRODUCTION 
Tundra biome is the coldest of all the biomes and the word 
tundra is derived from a Finnish word "tunturi" which 
means "treeless plain". 
It is among the harshest biome and the are found in the 
arctic region and on top of mountains where the climate is 
cold and windy and the rainfall is scanty.  
Temperature 
-40°C to 18°C 
Precipitation 
150 to 250 mm of rain per year 
 It also receives low amounts of precipitation, making the 
tundra similar to a desert.  
The tundra regions are covered with snow most of the year 
and summer brings blooms of wild flowers.

FEATURES 
The tundra biome is considered a carbon 
dioxide sink because it stores more carbon 
dioxide than it gives off. 
There are very few trees that grow in the 
tundra biome.  
The ecotone (or ecological boundary region) 
between the tundra and the forest is known 
as the tree line or timberline.
