- Marked price of an article = Rs. 500
- Discount offered by the shopkeeper = 5%
- Profit made by the shopkeeper after giving the discount = 25%
Calculating the Selling Price
As the shopkeeper gives a discount of 5%, the selling price of the article will be:
Selling Price = Marked Price - Discount
Selling Price = 500 - (5/100)*500
Selling Price = 500 - 25
Selling Price = Rs. 475
Calculating the Cost Price
As we know that the shopkeeper made a profit of 25% after giving a discount of 5%, so we can use the formula:
Profit Percentage = (Profit/Cost Price) * 100
Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price
25 = ((475 - Cost Price)/Cost Price) * 100
25*Cost Price = 47500 - 100*Cost Price
125*Cost Price = 47500
Cost Price = 380
