Historically, the biggest reason for migration from villages to cities has been job opportunities. During the industrial revolution huge shifts in populations from villages to cities were observed because of the industrialisation of the agricultural process, meaning less people were now needed to produce the same amount of crops, livestock, dairy products and eggs. At the same time factories were needing lots of employees with minimal skills. Thus people to survive and have jobs that enabled them to buy food moved to the cities.
Today, I think the majority of people move from villages to cities because of jobs and job opportunities. There may be other reasons that also play a role such as the cultural scene, easier travel to other countries, access to better education, shopping, nightlife, easier to find your particular hobby scene. Cities tend to be larger than villages and more diverse in terms of population. Thus enabling a larger culture scene and so on.
