Is IIT JEE Advanced Exam Now Subjective and Objective Both?

The Indian Institutes of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) is one of the most competitive exams in India. It is conducted in two stages - JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced exam is the second stage of the selection process for admission to the prestigious IITs.

The Old Format

Previously, the JEE Advanced exam used to be a completely objective type exam. It consisted of two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of three hours duration. Both papers had multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The total marks of the exam were 360, with 120 marks for each paper.

The New Format

However, from the year 2020, the JEE Advanced exam has been modified to include both objective and subjective type questions. The exam will have three parts - Part I, Part II, and Part III.

Part I
Part I will contain 18 MCQs with one or more correct options. For each correct option, the candidate will be awarded 4 marks, and for each incorrect option, one mark will be deducted. The total marks for this part will be 72.

Part II
Part II will contain 18 MCQs with only one correct option. For each correct option, the candidate will be awarded 3 marks, and for each incorrect option, one mark will be deducted. The total marks for this part will be 54.

Part III
Part III will contain 4 questions, each with four sub-questions. The questions will be based on numerical or short answer type. For each correct answer, the candidate will be awarded 4 marks. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. The total marks for this part will be 64.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the JEE Advanced exam has been modified from the year 2020 to include both objective and subjective type questions. The exam will have three parts - Part I, Part II, and Part III. Part I and Part II will have MCQs, while Part III will have numerical or short answer type questions. The total marks of the exam will be 192.
