When 1 mole of non volatile solute is dissolved in three moles of solv...
Actually we know more fraction x(ki)=moles of solute/moles of solution
so=1/1+3 =1/4
then psolvent-psolution/psolvent =mole fraction
=1/4
hence done

When 1 mole of non volatile solute is dissolved in three moles of solv...
Explanation:
The vapour pressure of a solution is the pressure exerted by the vapours of the solvent above the solution. When a non-volatile solute is added to the solvent, it lowers the vapour pressure of the solvent because the solute molecules occupy space at the surface of the solvent and prevent the solvent molecules from escaping into the vapour phase.

Formula:
According to Raoult's law, the vapour pressure of a solution is directly proportional to the mole fraction of the solvent in the solution.

Calculation:
Given,

Number of moles of solute = 1

Number of moles of solvent = 3

Relative vapour pressure = 1/4

Let the vapour pressure of the pure solvent be P₀.

According to Raoult's law,

Vapour pressure of the solution (P) = (mole fraction of solvent) x (vapour pressure of pure solvent)

Mole fraction of solvent = 3/4

P = (3/4)P₀

Given,

Relative vapour pressure = P/P₀ = 1/4

(3/4)P₀/P₀ = 1/4

3/4 = 1/4

This is not possible, so there must be an error in the question or the calculation.

The relative vapour pressure of a solution can never be less than 0 or greater than 1.

Therefore, we conclude that the given information is incorrect or incomplete.
