Concept:
Shearing strength of all bolts (Ps)
Where n is number of bolts, d is diameter of bolt

m = 1 for single shear and m = 2 for double shear
Here m = 2 because of double shear in double cover butt joint

(fub is ultimate stress of bolt)
Calculations:
For 4.6 grade bolts, fub = 400 MPa, fyb = 240 MPa

Ps = 167.2 kN

Calculation of Shearing Strength of Bolt

Given data:
Diameter of bolt (d) = 24 mm
Grade of bolt = 4.6

Formula:
Shearing strength of bolt = (0.6 × grade of bolt × π × d2) / 4

Calculation:
Shearing strength of bolt = (0.6 × 4.6 × π × 24²) / 4
Shearing strength of bolt = 167.2 kN (approx.)

Therefore, the shearing strength of the 24 mm diameter bolt of grade 4.6 in double shear will be 167.2 kN approximately.
