If a reciprocating pump having a mechanical efficiency of 80% delivers...
Given:
Mechanical efficiency (η) = 80%
Discharge (Q) = 80 kg/s
Head (H) = 30 m

Formula used:
Brake power (BP) = (Q × H × ρ × g) / η
Where,
ρ = Density of water = 1000 kg/m³
g = Acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s²

Calculation:
Substituting the given values in the above formula, we get
BP = (80 × 30 × 1000 × 9.81) / 0.8
BP = 294120 W or 294.12 kW

Therefore, the brake power of the pump is 29.4 kW (Option A).
