Fraction of the race completed
To find out what fractional part of the race remains, we first need to figure out what fractional part of the race has already been completed. The racecar driver has completed 12 1/2 laps out of a total of 50 laps. We can convert this mixed number into an improper fraction and add it to 50 to find the total number of laps in the race:

- 12 1/2 = 25/2 (convert to improper fraction)
- Total laps = 50
- Laps completed = 25/2
- Fraction of race completed = laps completed / total laps
- Fraction of race completed = (25/2) / 50
- Fraction of race completed = 25 / 100
- Fraction of race completed = 1/4

Fraction of the race remaining
Now that we know that 1/4 of the race has been completed, we can subtract this from 1 to find out what fraction of the race remains:

- Fraction of race remaining = 1 - 1/4
- Fraction of race remaining = 3/4

Therefore, the answer is option C, 3/4 of the race remains.
