Solution:
Given, ratio of speed of ship: rail :horse is 2:3:1
Let the speed of the ship be 2x km/hr, rail be 3x km/hr and horse be x km/hr.
Distance travelled by ship = 120 km
Time taken by ship = distance / speed = 120/2x = 60/x hrs
Time taken by horse = 3 hrs
Distance travelled by rail can be calculated as below.
Let the distance travelled by rail be d km.
Time taken by rail = distance / speed = d/60 hrs
Total distance = 120 + d
Total time = 60/x + 3 + d/60
Given, average speed over the entire journey was 46 2/3 km/hr.
Average speed = total distance / total time
46 2/3 = (120 + d) / (60/x + 3 + d/60)
On solving, we get d = 180 km.
Therefore, the total distance travelled = 120 + 180 = 300 km.
Total time taken = 60/x + 3 + 3 hrs = 63 + 60/x hrs.
Answer: The total distance travelled is 300 km and the total time taken is 63 + 60/x hrs.
Given, ratio of speed of ship: rail :horse is 2:3:1
Let the speed of the ship be 2x km/hr, rail be 3x km/hr and horse be x km/hr.
Distance travelled by ship = 120 km
Time taken by ship = distance / speed = 120/2x = 60/x hrs
Time taken by horse = 3 hrs

ship speed = 60×2/3=40km/h
average speed = 140/3 km/h
total Time by ship = 120/40 = 3 hr
total distance by horse = 20×3= 60 km
Average speed = total distance/total time taken
average speed of boat and horse=180/6=30km/h
But given average speed is 140/3km/hr
difference of average speed = 140/3-30=50/3
distance = 50×6/3 = 100km
so, 100×3/40 = 15/2hr
so, total time = 15/2 + 6 = 27/2 hr
total distance= 27×140/2×3 = 630 km Ans.

horse speed = 60×1/3=20Km/h
ship speed = 60×2/3=40km/h
average speed = 140/3 km/h
total Time by ship = 120/40 = 3 hr
total distance by horse = 20×3= 60 km
Average speed = total distance/total time taken

difference of average speed = 140/3-30=50/3

so, 100×3/40 = 15/2hr
