where G1 and G2 are the two galvanometers, V is a voltage source, and GND is ground.

Then the current through each galvanometer and resistor is the same, by Kirchhoff's current law. Let's call this current I.

The voltage across each resistor is IR, since they have the same resistance R.

The voltage across the two galvanometers must add up to the total voltage of the source V, since they are in series. Let's call the voltage across G1 V1, and the voltage across G2 V2. Then we have:

V = V1 + V2

Now, each galvanometer has a sensitivity S, which is the deflection produced per unit current. Let's assume that the galvanometers are calibrated so that their sensitivities are equal, i.e. S1 = S2 = S.

The current through each galvanometer and resistor is now different, since they are in parallel. Let's call the current through G1 I1, and the current through G2 I2. Then we have:

I1 = V' / R
I2 = V' / (R + RC)

The deflection produced by each galvanometer is still proportional to the voltage across it, by Ohm's law. We can write:

deflection of G1 = S * V'
deflection of G2 = S * V'

Now, suppose we want to compare the deflection of G1 in the two circuits, i.e. when G2 is in series and when G2 is in parallel. We can do this by comparing the ratio of the deflections.

Ratio of deflections = deflection of G1 with G2 in series / deflection of G1 with G2 in parallel

= (S * (V - V2)) / (S * V')

= (V - V2) / V'

Substituting V' = V / (1 + RC/R), we get:

Ratio of deflections = (1 - V2/V) / (1 + RC/R)
