Why there is a time lag between kanyakumari and kashmir?
Verified Answer
Why there is a time lag between kanyakumari and kashmir?
Kanyakumari is close to the equator, whereas Kashmir is far from the equator. This means that Kanyakumari is at a lesser latitude as compared to Kashmir. Kanyakumari is at 8N latitude, it is just 8 degrees from the equator. As equator receives direct sunlight, the duration between day and night would hardly be felt at Kanyakumari. On the other hand, Kashmir is at 37N latitude, which means that it is 37 degrees away from the equator or it is 37 degrees away from the area which receives direct sunlight. So, there would be a difference in the duration of day and night in Kashmir. This difference causes time lag between Kashmir and Kanyakumari.

Why there is a time lag between kanyakumari and kashmir?
Introduction:
There is a time lag between Kanyakumari and Kashmir due to the geographical difference in their longitudes. The Earth is divided into 24 time zones, each approximately 15 degrees of longitude wide. As one moves from east to west, the time zone changes by approximately one hour. Kanyakumari and Kashmir are located in different time zones, resulting in a time difference between the two regions.

Geographical Difference:
Kanyakumari is located at the southernmost tip of India, while Kashmir is situated in the northernmost part of the country. The longitude of Kanyakumari is approximately 77.5 degrees east, while the longitude of Kashmir is around 74.5 degrees east. This means that Kanyakumari is further east than Kashmir.

Time Zone Division:
The Indian Standard Time (IST) is set according to the longitude of 82.5 degrees east, passing near the city of Allahabad. As a result, the entire country follows IST as the standard time. However, due to the vast east-west span of India, there are variations in local solar times.

Time Zone Differences:
1. Kanyakumari: Since Kanyakumari is located further east than the reference longitude, it experiences the sunrise and sunset earlier compared to places located further west. Therefore, the local time in Kanyakumari is ahead of the standard time.
2. Kashmir: On the other hand, Kashmir is located further west than the reference longitude. This means that the local time in Kashmir is behind the standard time, and the sunrise and sunset occur later compared to places located further east.

Time Lag:
Due to the time zone differences, there is a time lag between Kanyakumari and Kashmir. The time difference between these two regions is approximately 30 minutes. This means that when it is 12:00 PM in Kanyakumari, it would be around 11:30 AM in Kashmir.

Conclusion:
The time lag between Kanyakumari and Kashmir is a result of the geographical difference in their longitudes and the division of time zones. Kanyakumari, being further east, experiences the sunrise and sunset earlier, while Kashmir, being further west, experiences them later. This time difference of approximately 30 minutes creates the time lag between the two regions.
