    I , II and III
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
What product are formed during the electrolysis of a concentrated aque...
Cl2(g) is formed at anode and NaOH and H2 are formed at cathode. Since, cathode and anode are separated. Hence. there is no reaction between the products formed at the cathode and anode.
Note: but these reaction do not occur
Note: NaCl is neutral pH = 7 initially. After electrolysis , NaOH is formed
Hence, solution become, basic pH >7

Electrolysis of a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium chloride using an electrolytic cell with a porous pot

During the electrolysis of a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium chloride (NaCl) using an electrolytic cell with a porous pot, several products are formed. The electrolytic cell consists of two electrodes (anode and cathode) separated by a porous pot.

Formation of products:
The following products are formed during the electrolysis:

I. Cl2(g)
Chlorine gas is formed at the anode (positive electrode) during the electrolysis. This occurs due to the oxidation of chloride ions (Cl-) in the solution. The half-reaction at the anode is:

2Cl- → Cl2 + 2e-

II. NaOH(aq)
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution is formed at the cathode (negative electrode) during the electrolysis. This occurs due to the reduction of water molecules (H2O) in the solution. The half-reaction at the cathode is:

2H2O + 2e- → 2OH- + H2

III. H2(g)
Hydrogen gas is also formed at the cathode during the electrolysis. This occurs due to the reduction of water molecules (H2O) in the solution. The half-reaction at the cathode is the same as mentioned above:

2H2O + 2e- → 2OH- + H2

IV. NaClO(aq)
Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) solution can be formed as a secondary product. This occurs when chlorine gas (Cl2) reacts with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) formed at the cathode. The reaction is as follows:

Cl2 + 2NaOH → NaClO + NaCl + H2O

V. NaClO3(aq)
Sodium chlorate (NaClO3) solution can also be formed as a secondary product. This occurs when chlorine gas (Cl2) reacts with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) formed at the cathode. The reaction is as follows:

3Cl2 + 6NaOH → 5NaCl + NaClO3 + 3H2O

Conclusion:
Based on the above information, the correct choice is option 'D' - I, II, and III. Chlorine gas (Cl2), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and hydrogen gas (H2) are the primary products formed during the electrolysis of a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium chloride using an electrolytic cell with a porous pot. Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) and sodium chlorate (NaClO3) can also be formed as secondary products.
