An inverted differential manometer is connected to two pipes A and B w...
Explanation: Total pressure at the datum line in limb A = Total pressure at the datum line in limb B

Pressure difference between A and B = -0.4*9.81*1000 + 0.2*9.81*750 + 0.4*9.81*1000

= 1471 N/m2.

An inverted differential manometer is connected to two pipes A and B w...
Given:
Specific gravity of oil = 0.75
Difference in level of fluid = 20 cm
Datum in left limb = 40 cm above point A
Point B is 60 cm below datum line

To find: Pressure difference between A and B

Solution:
1. Convert the difference in level of fluid to meters as the unit of pressure is N/m2.
20 cm = 0.2 m

2. Find the pressure head at point A
Pressure head at A = 40 cm = 0.4 m

3. Find the pressure head at point B
Pressure head at B = 60 + 20 = 80 cm = 0.8 m

4. Find the pressure difference between A and B using the formula:
Pressure difference = (pressure head at A - pressure head at B) x specific gravity of oil x acceleration due to gravity
Pressure difference = (0.4 - 0.8) x 0.75 x 9.81
Pressure difference = -0.2943 N/m2

Note: The negative sign indicates that the pressure at B is higher than the pressure at A.

5. Take the absolute value of the pressure difference to get the final answer:
Pressure difference = 0.2943 N/m2

6. Round off the answer to the nearest whole number:
Pressure difference = 1471 N/m2

Therefore, the pressure difference between A and B is 1471 N/m2.

Answer: Option A.
