1740) was the second Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. He was born on August 18, 1700, in the town of Purandar in present-day Maharashtra, India. Bajirao's father, Balaji Vishwanath, was the first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire.

Bajirao I is known for his military successes and his extensive expansion of the Maratha Empire. He was a skilled general and strategist, and under his leadership, the Marathas won several important battles and expanded their territory across a large part of India.

One of Bajirao's most famous military campaigns was against the Mughal Empire. In 1737, he led a successful expedition to Delhi, defeating the Mughal army and establishing Maratha control over the region. This victory brought a huge amount of wealth and power to the Marathas.

Bajirao I is also known for his relationship with Mastani, a Muslim princess from the kingdom of Bundelkhand. Bajirao fell in love with Mastani and eventually married her, despite strong opposition from his family and society. Their love story has been immortalized in several books, plays, and movies.

Bajirao I died on April 28, 1740, at the age of 39. He was succeeded by his son, Balaji Bajirao, who became the third Peshwa of the Maratha Empire.
