Air exerts pressure can be shown by the example of sucking up water using a straw.

Explanation:

Air is a gas and it takes up space. It is made up of tiny particles called molecules that are constantly moving and colliding with each other and with objects around them. When air molecules collide with a surface, they exert a force on that surface. This force per unit area is known as pressure.

When we suck up water using a straw, we create a vacuum inside the straw. A vacuum is an area with no air or other matter. When the air inside the straw is removed, there is a difference in pressure between the inside and outside of the straw. The pressure outside the straw is higher than the pressure inside, so the higher pressure pushes the water up into the straw.

The air pressure outside the straw pushes the water up to fill the space left by the air that was sucked out. This is because air always moves from areas of higher pressure to areas of lower pressure. The pressure exerted by the air is what allows the water to be sucked up into the straw.

Summary:

Air exerts pressure on objects and surfaces. When we suck up water using a straw, the air pressure outside the straw pushes the water up to fill the space left by the air that was sucked out. This is an example of how air exerts pressure.
