Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
David gets on an elevator at the 11th floor of a building and rides up...
Suppose their paths cross after x minutes.
Then, 11 + 57x = 51 – 63x
⇒ 120x = 40
⇒ x =1/3
Number of floors covered by David in (1/3) min. =1/3 × 57= 19.
So, their paths cross at (11 +19) i.e., 30th floor.

David gets on an elevator at the 11th floor of a building and rides up...
Given:
David gets on an elevator at the 11th floor of a building and rides up at the rate of 57 floors per minute.
Albert gets on an elevator at the 51st floor of the same building and rides down at the rate of 63 floors per minute.

To find:
At which floor will their paths cross?

Solution:
Let's assume that their paths will cross at xth floor.

Distance covered by David = x - 11 floors
Distance covered by Albert = 51 - x floors

As they are traveling at the same time, the time taken by both of them will be the same.

Time taken by both = Distance / Speed

Time taken by David = (x - 11) / 57
Time taken by Albert = (51 - x) / 63

As per the given condition, both of them will take the same time.

Therefore, (x - 11) / 57 = (51 - x) / 63

On solving the above equation, we get x = 30.

Therefore, their paths will cross at the 30th floor.

Hence, the correct option is (C) 30.
