Incorrect Statement about Resonance:

  • Resonance structures should not have the same number of electron pairs: This statement is incorrect because resonance structures must have the same number of total electrons. The difference between resonance structures lies in the distribution of electrons rather than the total number of electrons. The total number of electrons must remain the same in all resonance structures.

Incorrect Statement about Resonance

Resonance is a phenomenon where two or more Lewis structures contribute to the same overall molecule or ion. It occurs due to the delocalization of electrons in the molecule or ion. The incorrect statement about resonance is:

c) In resonance structures, there should not be the same number of electron pairs.

Explanation

This statement is incorrect because in resonance structures, the number of electrons should always be the same. Resonance structures differ only in the arrangement of electrons around the constituent atoms. The number of valence electrons in the molecule or ion remains the same, and the only difference is the placement of the electrons. Therefore, the correct statement about resonance is that the resonance structures should have the same number of electrons.

Other Correct Statements about Resonance

- Resonance structures should have equal energy: The energy of resonance structures should be nearly the same, and the structure with the lowest energy is the most stable.
- In resonance structures, the constituent atoms should be in the same position: The position of the constituent atoms remains the same in resonance structures.
- Resonance structures should differ only in the location of electrons around the constituent atoms: The only difference between resonance structures is the placement of electrons.

Electron pair remain same though that electron pair chance its position it keep on jumping around different constituent atoms according to rules of resonance so there should be same number of electron on each resonating structure although there relative potision may be different . this is explanation of option C . BUT i think option A is also wrong different resonating structure have different stability and so as the energy. So Navya PLEASE CHECK.
